The Hanged Man
Top Customer Reviews
You can tell the group has issues as facts slowly ooze out. Their reasons for killing themselves are exposed.
This is an interesting thriller with a twist or mystery. It is not a horror film. Robbyn Leigh provides the token eye candy.
Not for everyone. Part of a 30 Horror film collection. The hanged man in tarot cards is surrendering to a higher authority or greater good.
Parental Guide: No f-bombs. N-word. No nudity. Implied sex, rape.
A superb job of setting the premise within an internet chat room and the truths and deceptions that are revealed when the participants meet face to face.
it's fairly easy to figure out who "darkstar" is as it is to read their personalities and realize that nobody will actually follow through with the plan of following through with the suicide pact.
The conclusion to the story is superbly crafted and eerie; the psychological impact is impressive and long ignored techniques in drafting a horror story of this nature are deftly applied here to provide maximum effect.
The only disappointment is the careless and insignificant allusions to the Tarot which is diminished to a mere visual gimmick rather than being effectively used as a catalyst for the plot. Other than that, this script offers glimpses into the human psyche that are the building blocks to the growing sense of dread that culminates in a spine chilling surprise conclusion.
This movie showed a lot of promise during the first half hour or so, but then the story just ran off the rails and went nowhere. This of course was not do to the acting; which was quite good, but rather the writing. In fact after getting through this feature I had to check out what was next for the actors/actresses just out of curiosity. The story on the other hand was full of logic holes and drifted from the main story often of enough to distract from what little conflict the tale had.
The film was shot well, but what little special effects the movie had did not hold up to footage and was mostly just playing with image controls in post.
I would be hard pressed to present this film as a horror flick as in my opinion the genre would be more of psychological thriller without the thrill.
My recommendation; pass this one up.
They meet one at a time at a creepy old barn in the middle of nowhere, waiting for Dwarf Star to arrive. Things begin to happen as we hear creepy background music and each character start to unfold this/her secrets.
Immediately we think of classic stories like "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"; there are cheesy flash backs or forwards or sideward to support the theme that this is a dream. Please do not make it a cheap knockoff of "The Eye" or some other cheep ghost story. Tell me it is a psychological thriller or something less sinister.

Not a great film, but a good indie horror effort. In spite of some rough spots (muddy story line, some plot holes, improbable character actions/decisions) it's a a decent watch and... Read morePublished on February 19, 2014 by azjmw
