I've been reorganizing and reworking my office recently. It faces east and doesn't always get the best light, especially on dim days this time of year. An additional light fixture was what I needed and I thought a hanging light would solve the problem.
I'm using this with an Edison bulb, and a white plastic lamp guard / cage. It's a bright, modern look that fits in with my office design.
The cord is working well -- it's long enough to hang where I want it and reach down to the outlet. It takes a bulb with a standard-sized base. The on/off switch is placed about midway, to be easy to reach and it works well.
The white blends in with white walls and ceiling and doesn't call attention to itself, which I like. That's good -- I want to see the bulb and cage but not the cord so much.
Very pleased with this cord!
My wife loves to garden, and she often keeps working in her garden long after the night has fallen. The exterior wall sconce for our backyard is quite dim and the power rating doesn't allow a brighter light bulb, so she often has to use a portable LED lamp. But sometimes she wants an omni light, and this 12 foot-long solution is just perfect for her. She simply plugs it in and pulls it to about the center of the backyard and then hang it on a tree branch, and with a light bulb inserted, it'll provide ample lighting for her to work with at night.
It is well-constructed, durable, and very convenient. She now uses it all the time and recommends it for any household.
It is not a complicated product. Essentially it is an extension cord with a lightbulb socket instead of a plug socket at one end, with a simple inline thumb wheel switch near the plug end. It is described as an indoor/outdoor item, but I would I no way use it outdoors in anything but fair weather. Neither the switch or the bulb socket I sealed to any degree at all.
So if you need a complete solution, a retractable cord reel with a socket in a protected cage might be more suitable. But at a higher price. If you want the simplest solution at a cheap price, this will do. But the, you could just as easily buy an extension cord and a socket with a two pronged plug and achieve the same result.
Maybe the most telling thing about the thought that went into this product is the fact that the packaging is labeled 'chord' instead of 'cord'.
Need I say more?
The cord has an on/off switch in-line, and I use a knot to tie the cord to a hook on the ceiling. I thread or loop part of the cord around the curtain rod to keep the cord near the wall. The cord is about 12 feet long...long enough to reach from the outlet to the ceiling with cord to spare. He loves that he can now turn off his light right near his bed. Eventually, I will find a light bulb cover for it...something that will clamp on to the light bulb itself.

This takes a maximum 60 watt bulb. works with standard Incandescent, LED or CFL.
I got my light a discount for the purposes of review.
