Lots of great ideas and insperation.
There are a total of three bodice patterns and one hat pattern. There are no cutting instructions for sleeves and colars. The author leeves the reader pretty much on their own. This book is not good for a beginner just learning their way around.
Maybe I've just missed it, but I didn't find size anywhere.
Update: Nov 7, 2014
My last review was written in April 2014. Since I wrote the first review, the author contacted me and was willing to mail me the full size copy of the patterns which are in the book. That was very good of her to make good on this product. I would still recommend looking on Amazon for the printed version of this book instead of the Kindle version simply because the patterns are not usable from the Kindle book. However her original patterns and dress projects are very lovely, and she gives clear instructions for making them. So I am going to upgrade my review from two stars to four stars. I would have given it five stars except for this issue with the Kindle patterns not being usable. Buy the printed book. You'll love it.
The thought of cutting into a vintage masterpiece hankie to make doll clothes may be upsetting to some, but the result surpasses the original. Now that I am inspired to sew, I can't wait to reprise my hankies into something other than one dimensional nose wipers.
Of course, I would have loved more patterns, but there are enough to get one started on the road to Hankie Couture. Anyway, all 11.5-inch dolls are not created equal (you can buy an actual Hankie Couture doll to fit the patterns),so you will probably have to make adjustments to the patterns anyway. I plan to make a muslin mock-up before I go chopping into any hankies.
I see this book as a guide to decision making when planning one's hankie dress. There are soooo many photos that I know you will be able to find a hankie similiar to one that you want to use. I have been busy studying how Marsha places her patterns and makes the best use of the hankie design.
Even if you never plan to make doll clothes, you'll have a great time looking at the beautiful designs. I have been through it three times in less than a week and see something new every time. I have shown the book to several friends and they are all on the hunt for vintage hankies for me.
While not a professional seamstress, I have whipped up my share of clothes, quilts and Barbie fashions in my day and I will say that the workmanship on these hankie dresses is outstanding. It is well worth visiting the Hankie Couture website. If you are on the fence about this book, a quick look there will help you see that this book has been a labor of love and well worth the expenditure.
All in all, I still have to give it 5 stars, just because the dresses are truly little works of art, & with her ingeniuos sewing, Marsha Greenberg definitely deserves the accolades. But if I were Marsha, & I were going to make a second book, I would ask that my editor perhaps put a little more time into making sure I sound good through-out the ENTIRE book. I think she derserves that.

A few examples of how the pieces were laid out on full uncut hankies would have made all the difference to this book.
I guess the author really wants you to continue buying her creations already made.....
Still an interesting book.
It is true that there are only patterns/instructions for two dresses, a hat and a purse. However, I think this is sufficient. In my opinion, the purpose of this book is to share the author's enthusiasm and provide inspiration for the reader to create their own miniature works of art from vintage materials. And actually, these patterns provide a basic structure for making a multitude of different dresses. There is also a sewing tips section and a section providing the details for each of the dresses shown in the book.
Since one of my pet peeves is print on coloured pages, I would like to add that while many of the pages do have a coloured background, it is a pale tint and the font is large and clear enough to easily read.
I was pleasantly surprised by the whole book, and especially by the large, bright photos. I'm looking forward to making my own hankie couture and also to just relaxing while leafing through this beautiful book.
