Product Description

The HI 98121 pH/ORP/Temperature Tester is a waterproof combination pocket pH, Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), and temperature tester with a replaceable electrode and a non-clogging, replenishable fiber junction.

The meter features a large LCD screen for readability, an ergonomically designed waterproof casing, and automatic temperature compensation to eliminate the need for additional calculations. It has a replaceable electrode and renewable reference junction, which helps prolong the life of the tester.

The HI 98121 tester functions in temperatures of -5.0 to 60.0 degrees C/23.0 to 140.0 degrees F (+ or - 0.1 degrees C / 0.1 degrees F), and has a range of -2.00 to 16.00 pH (+ or - 0.05) with a resolution of 0.01 pH. The meter can be calibrated at one or two points for pH with auto-buffer recognition, and against five memorized buffer values. For ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) readings, the tester has a range of + or - 1000mV (+ or - 2) with a resolution of 1mV and automatic factory set calibration. Dimensions are 163 x 40 x 26 mm (6.4 x 1.6 x 1.0"), with weight 100 g (3.5 oz.).

pH testers measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance and are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists.

Use this for Kangen water demo's. Better than the pinpoint meter and stays in celebration longer. You don't need the companies solution to store the probe in either. Just run some 2.5 acid water and put a little in the cap.

TIP: If you haven't used it in a long time...just soak it in some 2.5 acid water overnight.

TIP: If doing demo's and it seems to not be adjusting to orp fast enough...run some 11.5 and 2.5 in two cups. Then put meter in one cup then the other for 20 secs or so each, keep going back and forth till it starts registering orp faster. Once satisfied put a little 2.5 in the cap and close...no you're ready! I do this before EVERY demo...it helps the unit register a lot faster.

I have never bought a pH meter before, but after looking around settled on this one. It works great and does exactly what I needed. I bought it for measuring urine and saliva pH. I took the advice of others and did make sure to buy the 4.01 and 7.01 Buffer solutions for calibrating.

I love the convenient size of this meter! I love that it has both PH and OPR in one handy dandy unit! I have one in my purse, one at my home and one at my Appliance store where we have an Enagic Kangen Water Ionizer set up for use and for sharing water with others. The meters get used multiple times a week to test the water and show people how their tap and bottled water compares to Alkalized, Ionized, Reduced water, and we could not be happier with these great little meters. We also own the Pinpoint meters. I will take the Hanna unit any day over the Pinpoint.

Hi, This is the second instrument I have purchased and I found out that unless the PH electrode is kept wet failure is imminent. I don't know how long you will be able to keep the instrument HI98121 shelf but if too long you might receive all of them back. The one I received today was so dry the sponge was stuck to the bulb!

This is a fine and reasonably price Ph Meter. It is compact and ruggedly built. My intended use is for occasional checking on solutions. I was a bit surprised that the meter needed calibration solutions. (This is my first such device however)Even a relatively small number of such solutions was nearly $100. Not complaining, as the seller was very helpful but I just was not knowledgeable about the need for these solutions. Meter has worked as intended and given the results expected and needed.

My wife and I were having a discussion as the which water ionizer would be best for us. We purchased the one that we felt was the best all around and when it came in we ordered the Hanna Instruments HI 98121 Combination pH/ORP/Temperature Tester to check the PH & ORP readings to confirm our selection and the water ionizer that we purchased. The tester worked perfectly right out of the box. It took a little bit to completely understand the directions that came with it but after a few tries it became clear. I would recommend this to anyone looking to test not only PH levels but also OPR readings for water systems.

I purchased this meter to test the PH and ORP of the alkaline ionized water I was making with this Platinum Alkaline Water Ionizer Machine The Hanna meter is very accurate and matches the display screen of this water ionizer pretty closely. Before testing you must wash off the electrodes of the Hanna meter with the water your testing and fill up a large glass to conduct the test. Then you will want to let the meter sit in the water for about 20 to 30 seconds to see what PH or ORP the meter finally settles on. This is only necessary because the meter test the ph to the 1/100th place, so it will fluctuate a little bit, but for common use this degree of accuracy is not necessary. The ORP testing function is really good too, I used it to test alkaline ionized water, bottle water, coffee, orange juice, soda, and even alcohol. It is insightful to find out the different PH and ORP of the many common liquids we consume weekly.

I bought the Hanna HI 98121 meter to test swimming pool water. I have never used a pH/ORP meter before and did not know quite what to expect. It required a lot of effort to get it working, but in the end it works well and I am happy with it.

As others have found, the storage solution shipped in the cap had dried up. I was unable to get the pH reading to stay in calibration and the ORP function gave erratic results. So I exchanged it for another of the same model.

The replacement meter had exactly the same problems. The instructions say to soak it for one hour in HI 70300 storage solution if the pH electrode had dried out. However, I had to soak it for 4 days before the pH reading would stay in calibration.

The ORP function was still somewhat erratic, went way down if the solution was stirred, and took as long as 90 minutes to settle to a stable value. The instructions recommend soaking in HI 7061 cleaning solution to clean the electrodes, but that did not help. Hanna also recommends polishing the ORP electrode with jeweler’s rouge, but that did not help either. Some other manufacturers recommend polishing the platinum ORP electrode with baking soda. I gently polished the platinum ORP electrode several times with baking soda on a moistened Q-tip and it worked! The ORP function now gives a stable reading in 2 to 4 minutes. (Do not polish the glass pH electrode.)

Since both meters I tried arrived dried up, I suspect the initial problems may have been due to old stock or improper storage rather than a manufacturing defect. I have read that pH electrodes have limited lifetime, even in storage, so I would try to find a source of fresh stock if I bought again.
