I bought this for my 4 year old daughter who poses many questions about her body and watches shows discussing the human body with great interest (Magic School Bus, Sid the Science Kid, etc.). She loves it. I do feel that it is pretty basic and lacking some detail. I wish that it had a bit more about the arteries and veins. However, the purpose of this puzzle is more about being able to work through the different layers of the body and how they are put together. I highly recommend combining this puzzle with a good book or video about the human body. For us, The Magic School Bus - Human Body and First Human Body Encyclopedia (Dk First Reference Series) filled in all the information she needs at this time. For a book that is a bit more basic and less cumbersome than the encyclopedia, consider Me and My Amazing Body. I will also say that the durability of this puzzle is very good! One of the pieces accidently went through the washer with the laundry and it came out with no damage and did not swell or warp and still fits nicely into the puzzle! I hope to buy more Beleduc puzzles in the future. I am very impressed!

I had been planning to get this for my daughter's third birthday for ages - she loves puzzles and is becoming interested in how her body works so I thought it would be perfect. I especially wanted to get it because her baby sister is about to have major surgery on her leg, and I thought this would be a good teaching tool to explain what the surgery is for. However, there is a significant flaw in that the bottom two layers of the puzzle are the wrong way round. It goes clothes, skin, muscles, internal organs, bones. So the layer with the lungs and the brain is on top of the layer with the ribs and the skull. If you look at the boy version you can see all the layers and see what I mean. I actually realized this prior to ordering the puzzle but I really wanted it, so I planned to fix it myself by copying the pictures and gluing them on top so that the internal organs would be under the skeleton. However, now that i have the puzzle I see that adding even a thin layer of paper and varnish would mean that the pieces on the layers above would not fit in properly.

I am about to email the company and ask them about it, because it is such a glaring error in what would otherwise be a very educational puzzle. For the age range it is geared to, this would be a first introduction to the inside structures of the body, and so to have that first introduction be wrong seems very unfair!

Apart from that it is a nicely made puzzle. I haven't given it to my daughter yet but I am sure she will love it.

Just got this puzzle today for my very curious 3 year old daughter. She LOVES it. I do too, my only complaints are
1. Nothing is labeled.
2. The mouth has no detail, just weird pink and purple stripes. I don't know why they didn't just draw a tongue.
3. It's not in order, in my non-professional opinion I would have much rather seen the organs at the bottom, then skeleton, muscles, exc..... So I would be able to better explain to her that her ribs are over her heart and lungs to protect them and her skull is there to protect her brain. But ehh...

It is a good size. It's tall and slender the pieces are also a good size so if one is dropped it is findable.

So in conclusion if you are looking for a puzzle that is educational themed this is a good buy, if you are looking for something actually educational I recommend getting one of those 3D model kits you see in doctors offices in my non-professional opinion.

This is SERIOUSLY my children's and my favorite puzzle. I saw this several years back. My friend's mother was a retired principal, and she oftentimes watched her two grandsons. Naturally, having an educational background, she chose to spend her time with them teaching everything and anything under the sun. This was one of the puzzles they pulled out, and at a tender age of 2, maybe 3, one of the boys taught ME an immense amount about the body using this puzzle, in combination with his grandmother's educationally inclined play lessons. I found this puzzle years later and had to purchase it for my own daughters. As I said, it quickly rose to the top.

This puzzle is a great addition to my four year old's collection. It is currently very challenging, I had to sit with her the first few times to explain the concept (all the muscles must go in together, all the clothes must go in together...), but after a few times she understood and is able to do the puzzle by herself. She is very interested in the human body, particularly skeletons and internal organs. I love that it includes the female organs front and center - it's a part of the body you don't often see in print, so being able to name them and discuss them as freely as we discuss the function of lungs and the brain is a breath of relief.

Just received the puzzle and the moment my 3 yo daughter saw it, she immediately wanted to play with it. She started putting up the pieces together on the floor and was naming the body parts as she does. It funny though that when she reached to the muscle puzzle, she immediately said, "Its grandma!" LOL! The muscle part just looked like a wrinkled face. She wasn't scared at all. Its a great addition to our homeschool materials and I find it very useful to introduce to her the body systems in a fun and engaging way. :) worth the purchase!
