About the Author

Sara Schmidt is a second-generation Beatles fan who, for the past seven years, has ran the popular blog "Meet the Beatles...for real." She has spoken at Beatles conventions and has recently written articles about the Beatles for several publications. Sara lives in Alton Ill., where she also works as an elementary school Title 1 reading teacher. When she isn't doing Beatle stuff, she enjoys singing and acting in her local community theater.

Sara Schmidt has been a Beatles fan since the late 1980s. She is the creator of the popular website, Meet The Beatles...For Real, which documents the stories and photographs of fans that have met one or more of The Beatles in person. She is the author of the books "Happiness is Seeing The Beatles: Beatlemania in St. Louis" and "Dear Beatle People: The Story of The Beatles North American Fan Club." She is a contributing author to "A is for Apple (Volumes 2 & 3)." She has given presentations at Beatles conventions and festivals around the United States.

Sara lives in Alton, Illinois, where she is a Title 1 reading teacher for elementary school students. She has a master's degree in elementary reading and a dyslexia certification. She love The Beatles, collecting Disney pins and taking naps.

It's obvious a lot of loving research and deep appreciation for the Beatles went into Sara's book. For those of us lucky enough to have been a part of the Beatles 1966 St. Louis concert experience, she totally recalled that wonderful musical memory. For those of us who were there as well as for those who weren't, her comprehensive narratives leading up to that high energy, rain-soaked night along with her detailed stories following that evening make fascinating reading of such a historical event.

Great Book

Paperback writer writes the Beatles' Missouri story.

Fantastic job in retelling the story of the Beatles in St. Louis. I was at the '66 concert at Busch Stadium so I'm a little bias. She has done an incredible amount of research in putting this book together. There are lots of pictures.
There is a lot of "behind the scenes" info that the average person wouldn't know about. There are things like John Lennon's argument on the plane when they left St. Louis, the fact that their dressing room was the St. Louis Football Cardinals' locker room, and telling about the guy with his hands on the master power cord during the concert, ready to unplug all the equipment if something went wrong.
The author also talks about their '64 concert in Kansas City and their '65 concert in Chicago.
I highly recommend it for any Beatles fan or anyone who was at any of these concerts.

This book is one of the best I've ever bought (and I have a Beatles collection of 150+ books). There's so many interesting facts and pictures, interviews, and it is wonderfully written! I learned things I hadn't known before about my own state and The Beatles. I'd recommend this to any Beatles fan.

It never ceases to amaze me how corners of Beatles history continue to surface after all these years. Sara Schmidt's book is a perfect example of that. Through rare photographs and diligent research, Sara discusses Beatlemania through the lens of St. Louis. Those who think they know everything about the band will be pleasantly surprised by this fascinating book.
