This is a mistake that competitors who read this book can exploit by focusing on helping their employees be happy. Because happy employees work better, are more productive, more creative and have longer retention. Just look at companies such as Zappos or Buffer.
There are lots of ideas in this book in short chapters, so it is easy to dip into it for new inspiration. I love the cartoon images that start each chapter too. Clearly the author had a lot of fun with the book.
Time to get happy at work!
100 tips and tricks for all levels of the organization. They are all well researched with documented success from companies around the world. And best of all, they are described and explained in a straightforward way, that makes you think - hey, this is not so difficult - I can go to work tomorrow and do that!
It is written with a sense of humor while maintaining professionalism. You just want to keep reading. One more - one more - until you reach tip number 100!
Read it, use it and get a happier workplace - I cant wait to get started myself!
I’ve followed Nielsens work since I saw his TEDx talk on happiness, back in 2012. The book is like his talks, in that it is straightforward, inspiring and something to act on. Happiness at work seems to be the new export of the Scandinavian contries.
I like how he divides the material into three sections, focusing first on what one can to for ones own workday, then how to impact colleagues, and finally: How to impact the whole workplace by implementing changes of varying complexity. The last section is titled Bosses and Boardrooms, and I found it the most inspiring section, and I’m not a manager myself. It points to some fundamentals of behaviour, and I recognized former bosses good and bad in the approaches described.
A great read, and also beautifully made. Each of the 100 chapters having cute and quite descriptive drawing to accompany the suggested activity. Too often graphics are left out of ebooks, but not here.
This is a well organized, easy to read guide with a touch of humor. The author's thoughtful insights on human nature and workplace culture are highlighted by real world examples and his personal experiences. He then goes one step further to present practical exercises to help empower the reader to effect positive change.
This book has inspired me to implement a number of tips at my workplace. If you interact with people at work on any level, I highly recommend reading this book.
It is a valuable tool with something for everyone.
