pronounce a-gain by the way. this album is cool. like some other artists I've been fortunate enough to stumble on, like coloma and telefon tel aviv. original newer artists creating good music. damero is in that same place. very cool stuff. experimental in it's bent, which makes for a better listen, as it doesn't just happen like sequencers going off like clocks, there is a great glitchee-ness to it. the melodies are very nice, most of this kind of music can lose a melodic sense, but like humanizing electronic artists the pet shop boys, she manages to keep the human element intact. this was a pleasant surprise for me, as was telefon tel aviv. allmusicguide can hip you on to some great music if you look at artists related to good groups, the better the group, the better the chance of finding really good stuff. can't wait to hear her work in the future.

I was expecting more cool, aloof German electro with this one, but what a surprise. It's a collection of lush, well-written songs, with melodies that will burn deeper into your memory with each listen and very up-front, confessional lyrics (mostly in English). It's definitely recommended if you like Lali Puna, Telefon Tel Aviv, Barbara Morgenstern, or similar artists, but it's really beautiful, emotional stuff that transcends the limits of electronica. Don't miss out on this just because the usual indie channels aren't pushing it.

Damero's debut, HAPPY IN GREY, has the feeling of a Morr Music release: the merging of pop sensibilities with an electronic one. With female vocals, to boot! The light, emotive touch of "Mope" or the guitar build of "Passage To Silence" (written in conjunction with Apparat) or the quiet glitchiness of "1-1+1-1+1-...=1/2" (with AGF) wouldn't be out of place with Morr Music's A&R. But, as the album appears on BPitch Control, it occasionally goes the club route with some 4/4 beats, like on "Right_Wrong," or in a more mellow way on "Gestern_Morgen." But it's the careful balance of instrumentation and texture that stands out the most: the guitar thrum of "Okay_Okay," for instance, contrasts with the haunting theremin in the background, while "Capricorn Saltlick" and "Creeping Thunderheads" have a creeping paranoia to them. "Things_Gone" goes back towards the beats, though with a more abstract vibe. And "I Made a Home" ends the album on a quiet, almost romantic note. You should be happy in grey also.
