The only downside is that there is a velcro seam and you need to spin this upward before use so that the seam isn't on your neck (if the bar is across your back/neck). This isn't a big deal to me at all, but some people hate having to do that. There are "slip on" bar pads available, but they look terrible because they have to be loose enough to fit over the olympic ends.
One is that I wish they had some velcro straps. Right now since it is new, it fits fine but over time, I can see the foam loosen up and potentially hard to keep on the bar...just from seeing some old bar pads I have seen laying around in the gym.
Not really a big deal. these are cheap enough that if it does loosen up, I guess I would just buy a new one.
The second thing is that I wish the foam was a bit thicker. Don't get me wrong, this does wonders to protect my shoulder/neck area but I found myself still wrapping a hand towel around it to lessen the pain point.
Still overall good product
I would buy again
As for whether it holds up when you put more weight on I can't say. Even if I had to buy this yearly or twice a year it would be worth it! It is not worth risking any injury to your muscles or bone structure by lifting without one. So to who ever might say it's not worth it, or that it's weak, isn't in it for the gains or weight lifting.
I would highly recommend this pad, it has beat several others in my opinion and works perfectly for the situation!
