Nick Rixey is so incredibly sexy; he makes people fall in love with him (I know I did). He's a battle-scarred former soldier. What's not to love? Becca is perfect for him. She might seem like an innocent little goody-good (and she is in many ways), but she has more guts than most people and is very strong in her own way.
I'm not normally the tattoo type, but Nick Rixey makes me think twice about that (especially if he was the one doing the tattoo).
One of the best things about Hard as It Gets is that it's not just a romance novel. There is a real story there, a mystery of sorts, and it keeps you engrossed the whole way through. While Nick and Becca are falling in love, Nick is protecting Becca and helping to find her kidnapped brother. His former team is there with him, and even though they have their issues, they all pull together as one to help.
I highly recommend Hard as It Gets and give it 5 stars.
Gah, where to start? Okay, Nick and Becca. Loved. Them. Nick is an alpha male through and through. This guy has some serious sexy going on. He's inked up, fierce and a bit damaged emotionally and physically from his past but he doesn't let it slow him down. And when he needs to eat crow and apologize...he does. Lickable, people. Lickable.
And Becca. She's exactly what I look for in my heroines. This woman was amazing--strong, bold, caring, and determined and willing to admit when she needs help and can't do something on her own. Absolutely adored her and that she was intelligent and just a solid and respectable person. And she loves a little 3 legged puppy.
And together. Scorching! The chemistry was sizzling and it definitely carried over to between the sheets *fans self*. Hot, erotic and incredibly emotional. And they had some amazing innocent moments as well that were just so sweet and touching and made me aww a few times. The romance moves fast but I completely bought it and loved every second as the two fought side by side and got to know each other.
The suspense was nicely done too. It kept me curious throughout wanting to know exactly what was going on after Becca's brother disappears and attacks start against her.Read more ›
Nick Rixey, a disgraced former Army Special Forces soldier, owns a tattoo shop (Hard Ink) with his brother, Jeremy, in Baltimore. Rixey is one cranky dude because he was not only wounded in action, but he was betrayed by a trusted officer and forced out of the service with his Army record besmirched, along with four other survivors of a horrific ambush in Afghanistan. So when beautiful nurse, Becca Merritt, walks into his shop asking for help in locating her brother who may have been kidnapped, Nick is less-than-welcoming. Especially since Becca and her brother, Charlie, are the children of Rixey's ex-commander. But Rixey's better nature prevails, and soon he, Becca and the four surviving members of Rixey's old outfit are up to their ears in some far-ranging conspiracy which seems to involve organized crime, drug dealing, the Army, the Baltimore police and maybe the US government.
Ms. Kaye is a good writer, and this book moves along well. But it is unclear just what audience she is writing for. If she wants fans of Maya Banks, there's not enough romance and sex. If she wants fans of Lee Child, there's too much female angst on the part of the heroine over her "relationship" with the damaged hero.Read more ›
I hate when a dialogue is going in a book and two pages later (after dissecting emotions for the 100th time) the dialogue picks back up. By then I forgot where I was in the conversation. If this book was trimmed down and not insulting my intelligence of where both characters emotions lie repetitively, I would've given it 4 stars. But having to filter through too much BS, took away from the enjoyment of the story.
