I was incredibly fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Hard in exchange for my honest opinion and loved it so much, I purchased it. This should go without saying but I highly recommend this book.
Luka is suffering from PTSD and Cara is recovering from a physical attack.
Luka is pretty broken, not sleeping.
Cara is battling panic issues, she’s slightly damaged.
Together? They work and can heal.
Oh, the book is set in England, so it’s SBS, Royal Navy, etc, not the American Navy SEAL.
Enjoyed the side characters and can’t wait for more stories in this series. I loved this book!
This is the second book in this series and although you can read them independently, I liked reading them in order.
I did receive this book as an ARC, but bought it because I liked it so well.
Luka has exactly two bright spots in his life: his sister and his niece. Other than that, he feels like he's just going through the motions every day. His time in the military has left him with a decent amount of PTSD, and night terrors. He works with his buddies at a security firm now, and at least they have their brotherhood. When Liam sends him to this training course, he expected to be bored. Why does the fiery little redhead tune him up so much?
Like moths to the proverbial flames, they are drawn to each other. They want to hate each other, but instead, it's turned into a burning lust that can't be extinguished. As they grow closer, it means each has to trust, and to jump past their hurdles. Can it be done?
In full disclosure, I read this in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in the Raw Heroes series, but as with the first, it can be read as a complete standalone. Also as with the first, I'm already ready for the next book. S.R. Jones writes characters who are deep, complex, and damaged. Fully human. She pulls on the nitty gritty of post war effects, not shying away from how long term some of those can be. Same goes for people who have had more than their fair share of bad in their life. But she manages to do it without it seeming trite. You feel for these characters. Luka is a beautiful man, Cara is also beautiful. Inside and out. Their spirits are not broken, but they are just making it through life. Trying not to let the fear win out, and trying not to hurt those who have stuck by their sides, who they have let in. The lust between them is raw, delicious. You'll laugh, and you'll choke up. I definitely recommend this one.
