This is not a long book, but Stanley uses his space and time well to set the stage, introduce the characters and provide plenty of action. I definitely want to know more about Michelle Angelique and follow the spills, chills and adventures of this professional assassin. I cheered as the scum went down one by one. Read, enjoy and I bet you'll cheer, too.
The story starts off with the killing of Michelle’s brother. Michelle escapes with cash and goes to Thailand where she stays for three years and comes back as a professional assassin.
With Michelle back in the US, the story takes many unexpected twists and turns involving drugs, corrupt police, life in the hood, etc.
Jason Stanley in his bio said, “How can I write about a Black woman in the hood? I grew up there. I was born to a single mother on welfare in the county hospital.” Michelle’s shares her mission of revenge with two lifelong girlfriends who help her, and the dialogue between the three girls (as well as all the characters’ dialogue) is very realistic making you think you are standing next to them as you read through this exciting story.
The author also lived in Thailand and gives a realistic views of Thai culture which he sprinkles throughout the story. I won’t go into detail and spoil it but just keep in mind Michelle doesn’t kindly deal with guys who beat up women.
What I really liked about the book is the author (who has a law enforcement background) goes into very interesting detail on how assassins plan and go about the assassination business, evading police in complicated ways, and covering their tracks. The assassination scenes are amazingly creative, with unexpected events springing up, and Michelle coolly handling it all. As I read the book, I got the feeling this author probably has actually seen many of the amazing crime scenes he writes about.
The police investigations, reactions, and activities are very realistic - all adding more excitement to the story.
A great ending which leads into the next book.
A white Escalade SUV blew by the house. Michelle Angelique still stunned watched as the disappeared.
Gabe Jr. (Gabriel’s son) Michelle’s cousin), & his 2 buddies were dead.
Michael Sr. (Michelle’s brother) lay in a pool of blood. He did not survive.
Michelle had to call Uncle Gabriel Sr. “G-Baby” (gangster) & tell him.
Fast forward 3 yrs. Michelle went to see Nikky Harris (rowdog), & Deja (rowdog).
She had been livening in Bangkok, Thailand.
Michelle had a very interesting job when she was over there.
BLAM! Richard “Lil Rich” Williams (junkie, Lewis’ lookout).
1 down a few more to eliminate.
Savvy’s club. Good morning. Michelle had taken Daryl home with her.
Jerome Johnson wasn’t what Deja was hoping for.

Why were Detective Gerard & Detective Glover going to arrest Michelle?
What is the name of Michelle’s new formed girl group?

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. Wow, a very well written pulp fiction thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great pulp fiction movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a paid-per-view mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.
