Product Description

Michael J. Fox and James Woods team up for hilarious action-adventure from director John Badham. Nick Lang (Fox) is a popular movie star who joins forces with a tough New York detective (Woods) in order to break out of his "nice guy" screen image. On the trail of a ruthless serial killer, the last thing Moss needs is a pampered Hollywood sidekick.

Amazon.com

In this raucous, high-energy action thriller from 1991, Michael J. Fox plays a spoiled Hollywood movie star who wants to bring vivid authenticity to his latest role as a big-city cop, so he recruits the real thing (James Woods) as his experienced mentor. This unlikely partnership doesn't sit too well with Woods, a hot-headed New York street cop who's a magnet for action-packed trouble. But that makes him just the right guy for Fox's research, which goes so far as to include Woods's girlfriend (Annabella Sciorra) and participation in some death-defying crime work. Fast, vulgar, and cranked at high volume, this is the kind of movie that contributed to the destruction of quality storytelling in mainstream Hollywood movies, but the screenplay scores bonus points for its lively characters and even livelier dialogue. Director John Badham is no slouch when it comes to action scenes, either, so if you buckle up and hold on tight, doing things The Hard Way can be surprisingly entertaining. To display the action in full widescreen glory, the DVD presents the film in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. --Jeff Shannon

Nick Lang is a very popular actor starring in big blockbuster films, but he is not happy with his success, there is a role he covets, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it. After seeing Lt. John Moss in an interview, Nick is convinced that if he spent time with him the role would be his. Using his considerable tinsletown clout, he arranges to be his temporary partner. Moss is angry about his new "assignment" taking him away from his big case of the Party Crasher. This guy has attached himself to Moss by calling him before he commits his next crime. Moss is determined to ditch Nick Lang, so he can concentrate on what is really important.

As these two men spend time together, the inadvertently learn life lessons from each other that help them in ways they couldn't imagine. I really liked this movie! I have always been a huge James Woods fan, and Michael J Fox was surprisingly good.

Action is action, but the thing that makes this movie worth one's time is the dialogue. If your tongue is getting dull, this film makes a wonderful whetstone. It is not really either star's best work, but scenes from it are among the first images that come to my mind at mention of Woods or Fox. DVD technology is a major asset, because it brings the experience as close as it can be to sitting in the theater -- which is, really, the way films are designed to be enjoyed.

A great pairing of mismatched characters. Michael J. Fox has fun with the role of the spoiled, out of touch with reality movie star. Yet, his character is believable, too. And, James Woods is excellent as the manic cop who has put everything into catching criminals and very little into developing his people skills. He uses such nuances in showing the turmoil within his character. It ends happily after violence and chases and threats, so that is good, too.

I'm a huge James Woods fan! When he does comedy it's a bonus. All star cast; Delray Lindo, Luiz Guzman, Michael J Fox, Christina Ricci, Anabella Sciorra...and Stephen Lang as a muscled up metro sexual, sociopathic badguy.

Sure, it's contrived and unsurprising but it is good fun.

A Goofy Action Movie with some good Action Scenes in it but the only Downfall about this movie is that I don't like James Woods or Micheal J Fox but the Movie is Good and it has a Real Good Car Crash in it to.

I love that Michael J. Fox doesn't take himself so seriously that he couldn't have fun. The interaction between him and James Woods is wonderful as two guys who can't stand each other yet get stuck together. Steven Lang has a memorable performance as "The Party Crasher", and I wish that they could have delved into his character a little more. I like the humor and the overall feel of the movie. It seemed to break some of the popular stereotypes like a cop living in filth, but embraces some like the Hollywood pansy idea. If you just sit down to watch this movie you will like it.

If there was DNR and sharpening added to this filmic HD transfer, it was tastefully done. This looks like a new movie. Colors are incredible, as is clarity, and no distracting artefacting or over-use of post production tools for the Blu Ray release. Very well done release!

The Hard Way is a superbly exciting action/comedy movie that never got the recognition it deserves. James Woods and Michael J. Fox are terrific together and their antics are the best part about the movie. James Woods is one of my top favorite actors and he gives an electrifying performance, as always escpecially in the underrapreciated The Specialist. The movie is loaded with laughs (some fall flat but its rare). Most of all the entire movie has an incredible high energy that is very rare. I`ve always been a huge fan of The Hard Way. My only complaint is I wish Stephen Lang as the villain would have been played more
serious and threatening through the whole movie like his incredible opening scene at the club. This great region free UK blu ray has excellent video and sound. I`ve never seen The Hard Way like this before. Its like watching it new and improved. I just wish there would have been some great extras. If u haven`t seen The Hard Way yet def pick it up or atleast check it out. Alot of fun.
