Love this brand and have ordered 3 or 4 journals. Overall, they are a dream to write in with smooth paper and lay flat design. Plus the dimensions are perfect (for me)--not too large or small. I'd love to see this size (252 pages) in white, lined and unlined. This is the first time one has arrived damaged. It's a little sad and I"m debating if it's worth event getting a refund. It just doesn't feel right to start my writing practice in a new but damaged journal. Let me be the one to damage it :-) I will definitely order again, but hope this doesn't become a trend.UPDATED 10-14-24 : I decided to return the damaged journal and got the new one day and it's perfect!
I do art/creative journaling. This means I will use anything in my journal. This is a found gem and will continue to use it for my daily journaling. Best value and size for me.
Let's start with the only negative. If you use a wet medium prepare for paper wrinkle. That is the only negative thing I can say.
Positive: 1. I have never had bleed-through. Occasionally there will be a little ghosting when stamping with Archival. Everything else I have used has not bled. This includes sprays, India inks, stamping inks, assorted pens & markers, watercolors (including brushos), and walnut stain. I don't pre-treat my pages (gesso), so this is just media vs. paper. 2. Paper is strong even wet. No matter what I have done to a page it may wrinkle but it has never torn. I use matte medium to attach things. I spray the page before and after using watercolor pigments. I have never had a page not hold true to its original size and integrity. 3. Signatures are sewn so pages are in there tight. I have not had migration of wet media via the signature threads. 4. I like the size to use as a daily journal. I do a double spread each day and it works for me. I have been journaling for over 20 years and have used everything from comp notebooks to expensive mixed-media books. It is so much better than most, but if you factor in the cost it is really tops. I still keep mixed media books for projects, but for a daily journal, this is it for me for the foreseeable future. 5. I like the elastic closure. If you do anything like I do it is nice to keep it closed, but my journal never finishes up flat because of all I put into it.
I originally was going to journal on a note pad. Because I’m not organized, I decided to use a notebook. This is perfect and well made! I love the compact size. The shade of blue is so pretty! I smell everything. LOL There is a slight smell but not overwhelming. It’s probably from the factory.
The paper was decent, good enough for my fountain pens. The cover felt a little light and cardboardy. You need to economize somewhere to produce a notebook at this price point and I'm glad that they economized on the cover, not the paper. Considering ordering again but there are a few other brands I want to try out first.
while i haven’t written in it yet tbh i’m pretty impressed with the quality of this notebook, especially for the price. love the maroon cover i got, reminds me of the petit scolaire notebooks i had as a kid in french school. i will say it’s not necessarily such a better deal than the moleskin like people are saying, since this was about $12 and has 160 pages, while the equivalent sized moleskin is about $17 here and has something like 240 pages (if you size up on the paperage you get 252 pages for $18)… so really its just a smaller sized option. still, if you’re like me and don’t usually fill up these notebooks anyway and would rather save $5 and try a fun new color that lowers the cliche pretentious artist factor when writing in public… this seems like a nice option !
Great deal for a quality notebook. Not quite on the level of a moleskine, but for the price I would take this any day for a regular everyday use. Very vibrant colored cover.
El cuaderno resultó un poco más pequeño de lo que esperaba y las hojas no son tan gruesas. Con uso de plumón si se traspasa al reverso de la hoja; sin embargo, la pasta es dura y es práctico.
