I've been wearing out both Between the Minds and Before the Storm for a few months now. These are two of the finest folk/rock albums I've ever heard and the emotions that they invoke in me are emotions of joy and love that I rarely get from music. So I finally decided to download Harder than Easy and when the title cut came on (2nd song) I just sat there totally astonished as I listened to one of the most beautiful folk/rock songs I ever heard. The melody, Jacks' voice, the beautiful background string arrangement, and then the addition of the female vocalist who enters the song about half way through just blew me away.

I've had 5-6 musical epiphanys over the last 25 years so so. One was the first time that I heard "Sultans of Swing", and another was Mark Knopfler's sensational Sailing to Philadelphia CD... This was another. I've now listened to Harder than easy 10 times os so in the last two days -- and I am not done with it yet. It's that good.

When I discovered mister Savoretti a while ago I ordered both of his albums in an impulse, after having only heard the song Dreamers from his debut album Between The Minds.
Never did acting out of impulse make me this happy.
Jack Savoretti is a unique, incredibly talented musician.

Anyone with such a masterpiece to his name as Jack's debut Between The Minds, would probably have a hard time coming up with a strong follow up. It seems as if Jack did not have a hard time at all.
Harder Than Easy sounds as if it was an easy job for him to do.

The first song Map of the World makes it very clear this isn't Between The Minds part II. Thank God it's not, real artists grow and move on and so did Jack.
Lost America is a beautiful song with it's brilliant 'Let us pray for L.A., Lost America' lyrics. So is Mother, with lyrics that actually made me shiver.
Standout track on this album is Russion Roulette which was already as an unplugged bonus track on the Deluxe Edition of Between The Minds. And what about the Nick Drake cover Northern Sky. Drake must be feeling proud up there in heaven for Jack's beautiful version of one of his best songs!
Patriot closes the album and makes me wish Jack would do more songs like this on his third album.

Like on BTM, there isn't a weak song on this cd. Jack is a true musician who puts his heart and soul into his music and wants nothing but the best for his audience.

If you consider yourself to be a true music lover, Jack Savoretti needs to be in your collection.
So get Harder Than Easy and spread the word, it'll make you feel like a better person!

I wrote "I was lucky enough to be given a promo copy of this and I've worn it out!
I can't believe it's not being released until February.
The CD starts with the Van Morrison / Water boys influenced " Map OF The World", which sets the tone for the rest of the CD.
If the songs don't grab you, then you're beyond help.
Savoretti follows in the footsteps of Ian McNabb in that he manages to out - Americanise the Americans- There are touches of Dylan in his poetic lyrics, flashes of Jackson Browne in the simplicity of the arrangements, the ghost of Springsteen's "Nebraska" era sparse approach is also present.=, but he remains firmly "English" in the restrained presentation of the album, 10 songs, performed with passion, no filler, no unnecessary instrumental excesses, nor vocal histrionics..
If you are familiar with Martin Stephenson's songs, are on nodding terms with Jesse Malin's works or have a fleeting interest in Fleet Foxes and Paolo Nutini's take on US Folk, then take a deep breath ,dive in and wrap these songs around you, You'll not regret the time invested.
All 10 tracks stand as individual testimonies to the songwriter's skill in making it sound effortless and unforced." back in October 2009 and waited...
and waited..
and waited.. for this CD to get a full release, so I could get all my friends to buy it..
Well, It's February 2011 and this is still unreleased in the UK, you lucky people in the US can treasure it, share it and spread the word..
I'll just wear out my promo copy and dream for better days.

I finally got a hold of his newest album (this has only been released in the US, not Europe yet), and he still suprises me. His music has been on such TV shows as One Tree Hill and Greys Anatomy. Jack Savoretti has a soul to his voice one can barely believe without listening to his songs over and over. And his self written music goes straight to my heart. I loved his first album and I love this one too. I've only listened through it a couple of times, but my favourites so far are Patriot and Breaking News. Hearing him on a CD can not compare to hearing him live, so if you like what you hear go and find some live clips of him online. I cannot wait until his new CD comes out - and hopefully it will be released in the US and Europe at the same time :)

This is a clever, well-crafted album of emotive and appealing songs which warrants a more in-depth listening than your usual, run of the mill, male singer-songwriter offering. This is not to say the songs are too clever or over complicated - they're not. What they do have is a darker, more thoughtful edge than a lot of the more easily accessible stuff around today. Perhaps though, Jack's voice is the real star. It's whisky deep and velvet gravel - mournful and soulful all at once. This collection is great, so buy it, and his other album, 'Between the Minds' is even better.
