This series should have anyone reconsidering entering into a relationship with one of the Montgomeries. It seems dangerous things happen to this tight knit clan regularly when one of them falls in love. But I must admit that didn't bother me. The reason I didn't give the book five stars was because there was too much layering in the narrative to explain what happened between books. I felt that dragged out the main plotline far longer than it needed to be. There are very, very vague hints of bigotry and crimes committed to discredit the only person in the narrative who is identified as non-Caucasian. I feel the author was afraid to have her characters be outright racist. Instead more weight was given to a weak ploy by the egocentric ex-husband to get full custody of his children solely to further his social standing.
A hint, Ms. Ryan, if you are going to write an interracial romance, either put the racial conflict front and center or don't make it a part of the plot at all except for a few ignorant glances (which you included) or remarks that could be cut down by any one of the characters, including the savvy children.
Don't be afraid to deal with the issue from your or Meghan's point of view. The racism doesn't always come from white people.
All in all an entertaining narrative which I recommend.
I loved this book, it showed real situations and also how real siblings react to each other. This book can be read as a standalone, but why would you?
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When Meghan got married before he could find the courage to express his love for his oblivious best friend Luc had to bail. He left because though he wanted her to be happy what he really wanted was for her to be happy with him.
Luc is back after 10 years and Meghan is single again. Can he take a chance with the woman she has become as the man he is today? Will she give him the chance or is she too damaged to try to love again?
This book made me laugh and cry and yell a lot. This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I found myself relating more to Meghan than most of the previous characters in this series. I will be re-reading this one over and over.
I loved how strong Meghan was for holding her family together the best she could while dealing with feelings of unworthiness. She could have easily given up but she held her head up and did her best to take care of her babies. After being away for almost a decade Luc returns and finds that his feels have not altered. Now he is back and will not risk losing Meghan again. The constant conflicts that were at every corner for this couple kept my eyes glued to my kindle. The ending was something I did not see coming but I was glad to see they finally found their happily ever after amongst the chaos.
One of the things I enjoy most about Ryan’s writing style is how she executes giving her readers a captivating story while dropping subtle hints to excite the readers for the next story to come in the series. I am also amazed at how she includes glimpses into the rest of the Montgomery family and shows the readers an update of their lives. It was nice to be able to continue the journey of the characters we fell in love with from previous books while learning about new ones. I definitely am a big fan of the Montgomery Series and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Griffin.
