I've taken out of the fridge and filled it with near boiling hot coffee. I've even filled it with near boiling hot coffee and put it in the freezer!
It's great for pour over, Japanese style iced/cold brew, overnight cold brew, and it is just TOUGH!
The cap snaps in and out tightly and creates a very controlled pour. The handle feels like cheap plastic but it's sturdy. There is no play, no wiggle, even at temperature extremes.
My only gripe is that it's a bit small for the amounts of coffee I've been making lately. Not a huge issue though, I simply transfer a full container into another vessel and continue to brew in this little champion.
I initially ignored the glass servers because I figured they wouldn't do anything to keep the coffee warm for long (they don't), and I could just pour-over directly into a cup. But given that your average coffee cup holds about 10 fluid oz. or 295ml, pour-over wasn't allowing me to do the 350-450ml that I typically brew at one time. Therefore, the #1 Hario server is the perfect size for my needs - I just brew into the server and pour into a cup a little at time. The glass was actually a little thicker and more durable than I expected too. Finally, the server has markings per 100ml, which offers an alternative way to measure your pour-over if you don't want to use a scale.
It's lightweight and no-nonsense, with a wavy handle that matches the Hario Buono kettle's handle. There are other Hario servers that also have the "beehive" shape in the glass, but to my knowledge they don't hold as much as this straight-sided 1000mL unit.
To be clear, this is made to hold your brewed coffee. It is NOT to be used on the stovetop.
