Not sure if you have seen the Korean show Crash Landing on You from Netflix, on the show one North Korean soldier made a cup of coffee for a South Korean lady he liked, and because it was North Korea, he had to go to the illegal market to get the coffee beans, roast the beans outdoors, hand grind the beans and used a low tech coffee pot with a cotton canvas to make this coffee for her. The lady said the coffee was “absurdly good.” It was so sweet, the pot looked so cool. I loved the scene so much I stupidly went on the Amazon site and looked up “hand drip coffee pot with cotton filter”. There it is, I can’t believe the same pot and setup popped up right away, Amazon does sell everything! My family has used this pot ever since, during COVId lockdown this was the best time of the day, we wake up and make coffee for each other using this simple coffee maker. We use the cotton filter until it is quite worn and I compost the cotton. The coffee is absurdly good!
By the way I highly recommend that show too.

You Will Never Buy Another Coffee Brewing Device!
Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2015
Leave it to the Japanese to come up with such a simple yet high quality device to brew coffee at home. (Although as another reviewer noted, this method has been widely used in Costa Rica for years). If you are tired of buying coffee machines that promise great coffee but fail to deliver, get this. It will be the last coffee brewing device you will ever get. And the simplest and most energy efficient. The 4-cup model is probably the best option because it will make enough brewed coffee for 2 "American" cups or mugs of coffee. The process could not be simpler, and although the instructions are in Japanese, there are translations into English on the box and the insert. One thing you will probably want to get is a Hario gooseneck pour over teakettle or similar because it allows for directional pouring of the boiled water over the grounds. As the instructions suggest, you should pour a little of the water into the center of the grounds and then work your way to the outside and then wait about 30 seconds for the coffee to "bloom" and release its treasured flavor. Then pour the remaining water into the cloth filter and allow it to drip through the bloomed coffee into the bottom of the carafe. Takes at most 2-3 minutes. And no sediment! I don't plan to store the flannel filter in the refrigerator because they don't do that in Costa Rica and I think the only "off" flavor it might pick up by letting it air dry is the last coffee you brewed. Keep it simple!I purchased Starbucks Italian roast beans and asked them to grind them for a French Press. The grind seems to be medium--somewhere between find and course, and it seems to work perfectly in the Hario drip pot. I'm thinking it would be nice to grind the beans at home but am done with investing in expensive electric grinders and for that matter fancy $1,000+ coffee/espresso machines that do the grinding for you and produce an awful cup of coffee. So maybe a hand grinder. Simplify your life and make the best cup of coffee you have ever had with the Hario Drip Pot 480Ml.

So when I started caring about my coffee years ago, my first venture was a Chemex, which was great but I hated the concept of having to use those special paper filters (which you could only buy in specialty stores or online, and I live in New York City!)
I tried metal/stainless filter meshes, but it would be not my thing.
I actually for a long time, and when I have guests over the house, I use my Faberware 8-cup Percolator
(https://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Classic-Stainless-Yosemite-Percolator/dp/B00005NCWQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=percolator&qid=1610272047&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExWVBNWkdMVFRUMzBSJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDA0MTkyWkJOQzUyUkk3SENOJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1MDYzNjIyNkgxVVdXNFlQVk5TJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==)
with beans I get in discount home stores (i.e. HomeGoods, TJMax, etc.) because most people don't really care how a coffee tastes unless they drink it black, and even then a "good coffee" is something that's strong and dark which that percolator makes perfectly...
Now, for me... I live in a great city with many roasters and unique opportunities to try some really great coffee and from all the "specialty wares" for making it that I've tried, the cloth filter gives the best, clean but full body to coffee that a pour-over can deliver. I LOVE my maker <3

I am very pleased with my Hario pot. I love the simple ritual that surrounds its use. And for those of you time challenged in the mornings, it would still be worth it on those days when you have the opportunity. A superior cup of coffee is the result. It's not really that time consuming to use. Goodness knows it's not difficult, and if you're like me, you'll watch a couple of videos on Youtube to see how it's done. The pot and filter are also easy to care for. The permanent filter is superior to paper in many ways. More efficient. More effective. Non disposable. No paper taste. I just pour the excess boiled water over the filter to clean it when I done and then it's in the frig in a ziplock plastic bag. The only rule for the filter is to never let it dry out, if you did, you'd simply buy a new cloth filter. Easy enough. And let me say this in plain speech, this Hario makes a perfect cup of coffee proving you supply good quality freshly ground coffee. Best home brewed coffee you'll ever taste.
ONE YEAR LATER: Can no longer envision making coffee any other way. When I have guests they have all rave about the delicious coffee I serve. Need to serve more coffee? Only takes a few minutes now that I have an electric heat kettle with thermostat set up along side my coffee bean grinder. It's all a matter of habit and experience. Some things are definitely worth learning anew.

Too too small

I come from a Brazilian household where hand filtered coffee is a staple but these kinds of filters are very hard to find nowadays. This product is actually very well made since the handle is stable and the cloth is very good flannel. The problem is I ordered 480ml size filter since my mother makes a liter of coffee every morning to fill in the thermos flask and this filter was barely a cup size if even that. Sincerely disappointed.

I have only used one so far, can use it so many times. I did burn the edges a bit leaving it on the hot surface of an aga but its only aesthetically different. It works great and easy to clean i just turn it inside out and tip the grounds into a compost bin and rinse it out, then leave to dry. I use it for the single cup style coffee maker that i got from pact. Its so good i feel glad i can waste less and find these easy to use.

Produce great coffee - Handle's varnish on the filter is chipping after a couple of days.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 16, 2021Size: 240 mlStyle: Drip Pot - Acacia WoodVerified Purchase
Overall a good product
Produces good coffee - It's not much hassle to clean - If you run hot water from the tap straight after making your coffee (and dumping the grounds into the bin) it should come off easily enough. Keep it on a cup of water in the fridge or a zip-lock bag in the freezer if you don't use everyday. Don't let it dry out or it can get the "smells"
Only thing I had to say that is negative is the quality of the handle in the filter holder. It is chipping already, it has been less then a week. I might sand it and oil it myself instead of relying on the varnish.

The wood isn't anything like on the pictures, much thinner material that feels cheap and rattles around, it makes good coffee but I expected better quality for the price.
Definitely don't pay a premium for the olive wood one, it's not worth it.

Well made l and easy to use. It's a good way to make coffee, similar to a v60 but the cloth filter let's more of the coffee oils through. Easy to clean too.
