The Esquire mini is smaller and thinner than the Esquire 2 and very attractive and sturdy for its size. I cannot comment on durability since this speaker is new to me, only time will tell.
I chose the brown color and love the elegant and high quality finish. It is about the size of an Iphone 6 but thicker. Due to its physical dimensions, I did not know what to expect. I was pleased with the Esquire mini’s sound, clear and detailed although lacking in the low end. The Esquire 2 has better low end reproduction and fuller sound but at the cost of a bulkier package. I do not feel like this is a fail for a speaker the size of the Esquire mini. Although it does not produce much low end it sounds pretty balanced and pleasing. If you are looking for an elegant and capable portable speaker that you can fit easily into a pocket, this may fit the bill nicely.
I feel a protective case should have been included for the price but it was not a deal breaker for me. A small case is not too much of an extra cost and easier to justify if you get this speaker at a good price. It would be nice if Harman Kardon would include a protective case in future offerings.
I only had this hooked up for a few hours and the first couple of calls seemed to be OK. But then when trying to listen to a podcast on my iMac it would cut out on the audio. At first I thought this might be something to do with the app or my computer, so I changed to a you-tube video and the same thing. It was like the bluetooth would cut out for seconds at a time. Then I tried my MacBook Pro, to make sure it wasn't the computer, with the same results.
I tried everything I could think of and finally decided that at this price, it simply had to go back. With so many giving this product great reviews, I am going to assume that I just got a defective one and that it is not typical.
I also found that the volume buttons were hard to press and very difficult to adjust when it is sitting on the kickstand. Plus the way you "mute" the microphone is to press BOTH at the same time. I primarily wanted to use this for conference calls and want to be able to easily hit mute. This was the final deal breaker for me and why I will not be trying a replacement unit.
I am also curious if the device usually arrives without any plastic protective wrap on it. I don't remember removing any and now wonder if someone else had returned it as defective and they resold it to me. No way of knowing this, but can't help wondering.
The other notable detail. I have another speaker phone from a different company and when you plug it into the computer via USB to charge, it also works over the USB. With this unit, it *will not* work over USB and only works via bluetooth. So if you want a device that does both, this is not the one to get.

At least I got 2 years out of it. I would be super pissed if this happened on Day 31!
Changing this to ONE star because, as expected, there's been NO RESPONSE from HK about the problem.
Curious to see if I'll get a response from the vendor on this; I purchased this speaker/charger in JUN 2017 - so it's now 10 months old.
I think I've used it all of 5 times, mostly for the speaker function. Went to check it out again today, to charge my LG V30 cel phone. The phone charging 'system' keeps switching on/off - endlessly. I have plugged in a different portable charger battery - no problem. I swapped out the cable to make sure it isn't that. No problem. I have even attempted to charge two other cel phones, but the same thing happens. I'm guessing the battery is worn out maybe, and that it's not providing enough of a current to the phone(s)??? or is providing 'less than' a trickle charge, so the phone(s) are 'seeking' a powerful enough charge?
