Ordered this for my grandson's birthday cake - was perfect for his Harry Potter themed party. Arrived on time in good condition. Was missing instructions for cake assembly, but sent an email to the seller, and they emailed instructions right away. Made (2) 9 x 13 cakes. Cut one cake in half and stacked the 2 halves on top of the whole cake - centered, but lined up even at back of cake. Frosted the 3 layers - then put wall & figures on middle layer with castle walls & towers on top - before the frosting was set so pieces would "stick" a little. Used Lego trees and shrubs. This was probably the easiest birthday cake I have made for him, but when he saw it - he gave me a big hug and said it was his favorite cake ever!

This is a great castle, and really was just the thing for my son's birthday. The characters though didn't hold up. Ron's head fell off almost immediately. I should point out this was a party for an 11 year old. Not tiny kids. The heads on the characters not so great for play which was very disappointing to my son. However, for cake decorating with was great.

I read the reviews and decided to buy this kit for my twin's 8th birthday. The cake turned out really well and I agree, it was very easy to put together. As another reviewer commented, my kit arrived with no instructions either. Luckily the other reviewer had written clear instructions, so I followed those and it really was a cinch. I posted a photo for others to use as reference. We used trees from a train set for decor and I also put re-lighting candles on the top. When the twins blew out the candles, my husband waved the a magic wand (a painted chopstick the kids use)and said "Illuminato" and the candles re-lit. It's all about magic after all!

I uploaded a picture of my attempt at this cake - it looks almost exactly like the picture on the website, except I"m not so talented with frosting trees. But, as the other reviewer said, you just bake two 9x13 cakes, cut one into two pieces (not in half though, should be about 60/40), frost each as you lay it on the tray, then stand the walls up, stick on the figures, and voila! You're pretty much ready to go. I had one good trick, which was to use my finger to "paint" some frosting from the cake and up over the base of the figurines. This both kept the figurines from falling over and disguised the bases well. Anyway, it's easy and it looks AMAZING. The only thing that's a potential issue is that we have a zillion people coming over for our party and this won't feed them all. I'd say you'll get 20-ish people out of this cake, maybe 30, but because it's all stacked you won't get clean pieces for everyone. No problem, though, I'll just bake a few extra cupcakes and call it good.

We got this for our son's 8th birthday & my Dad made the cake for the base. It was super easy (according to him), & turned out wonderfully. We used this picture as a guideline & all his friends LOVED it! I figure most kids have the traditional cakes from grocery stores or bakeries but this is something he'll never forget. So glad we got it!

I gave it 4 stars because one of the figures was bent and I couldn't get it straightened out since it is made of plastic. The kit worked well. I made a 10X14 sheet cake and 2 8X* cakes to put on top. I did trim about 1 1/2 inches from one side of each of the square cakes to make them fit the castle. I put the plastic facade on the sheet cake and then put the castle around the top cake. Cocoa was added to the buttercream icing to make it brown. Then all you have to make is green icing and use the grass tip to finish decorating. Although, I made a little blue to write Happy Birthday on the area in front of the castle. It worked well and my grandson loved it.

I thought this was very cool and purchased it for my son's 8th birthday cake.
I however did not find it a simple and easy cake to make but I think it turned out okay and my son absolutely loved it!

The Directions could have been better and I wish it would have been a 4 sided cake instead of making the back side completely blank.
The castle walls also appear to be mis-matched pieces and do not go together well.

The Great thing is that you can play around with it a little and make it into a great cake!

I bought this to make a cake for 10-year-old's birthday. I followed the pdf instructions found in these reviews. I also purchased some additional trees (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MAOHU4) because I had no faith in my ability to make it look pretty. My 8-year-old daughter added some boulders using Royal Icing and I think it turned out rather well. I know it was a big hit with the boys and that's all that really matters!
