Top Customer Reviews
The cartridge was delivered in secure packaging as well as a nice cartridge case. There were no scratches or noticeable wear and tear, and the game played great on my 3DS. There were no issues with it whatsoever.
The game itself is fun, with an interesting, but typical Harvest Moon introduction! You can't change your hair color/style or clothing like you can in other, later HM titles, but the premise is the same: you buy a derelict farm and try to build it up to perfection. It's fun, though occasionally a little repetitive.
The difference between this game and the original Friends of Mineral Town is that you play as a young woman who comes to won the farm after living in the city her whole life. The biggest thing this changes is that you can now get married to one of the many bachelors available in town; other then this, there's no major gameplay differences to be had here.
The game is as solid and polished as ever, making great use of the GBA's specifications and control scheme. It features two save slots, useful for pursuing a different husband, and looks/works great on the DSi and Ds Lite. In addition, by having it plugged into the GBA slot of a DS or DS Lite, its possible to unlock extra Bachelors in Harvest Moon DS Cute.
Overall, the best of the Harvest Moon games, and definitely the best one in which you can play as the girl. It's important to know what your getting into (a slow paced farm/life sim) but among it's genre it's truly the best.
Anyway, I actually did start a file on it, and it's pretty fun. The controls are a little difficult to figure out, but this is coming from someone who has been playing HMDSC for years. I think I'll get used to it eventually. I like that you don't have to mess with the touch screen when dealing with your animals.
This game is only one of an entire franchise of addictive games. It's good for little kids and adults alike, so I recommend it.
As for shipping, the item came packaged in a bubble wrap-lined envelope without a box or even a case. It was just the cartridge. Still, I actually prefer that because it generates less waste in the long run (I would have just thrown out the box anyway). Overall, great product. I'm very happy with the quality of the game and the condition of the cartridge--there are no glitches so far on the former, and no scratches on the latter.
The gameplay is ridiculously simple: take care of your crops and animals, interact with the villagers, and get married. No fancy hurdles to jump over, just simple simulation. The graphics are simple and a little washed-out, but this was typical of Gameboy Advance systems. Music is catchy and easy to recognize. The control scheme is easy, around 6 buttons/combinations to remember. Characters are varied in appearance and recognizable, if a little repetitive in their conversations. It includes elements of mining and turning your animal products into other goods (mayonnaise, yarn, etc.) It even includes rivalries between you and the other girls in town, making the romance system interesting.
Overall, everything good about a Harvest Moon game. Definitely deserves five stars.
*The games in question? HM: Tale of Two Towns, HM: Sunshine Islands, and HM: DS Cute.
