Yes Raiden and Dayo have been mated for 10 years. They've gone to school / space academy together for 4 years and then off on their first space ship. Now they're settled on a newer faster ship, the Unity, and in their roles within the fleet. There is a nice mix of past characters popping up and how life has moved on. While it's true we didn't see the mating and 'romance' between Raiden and Dayo, we see them as mature adults, confident in each other's skills, abilities, and a good blend between duty and family. Of course all that is tested, as it should be. And I guess to make up for the 'romance' we do get a first hand look at estrus. Details were a bit much. The barb, yes. Clotted fluids, a big no. Ick.
While I loved revisiting this race and family a generation later... The execution fell flat. Part of it was anticipating that kidnapping and waiting for it to happen. So when it finally does it's odd. It was so well planned and involving another race, able to fool everyone on the Unity. It was a huge undertaking for a simple revenge plot. And the person behind it all, did he live, die, or receive punishment for kidnapping royalty? I get that the focus was on Dayo and the rescue but you'd think there'd be more on the outcome besides a dick-less wonder.
Then there is Sishya, a part of Raiden and Dayo's family. In the last chapters he just disappears, never to be mentioned again. I was surprised he wasn't there around Dayo during the birth or at least close by and it was never mentioned if he met any of the other family members. Another oddity. There were a few misplaced words which even I noticed, simple editing mistakes. Three stars because the story was just okay, it was good but didn't shine. - Dan's Wife
I was so happy that I got to see Raiden/Dayo's and Takeo/Szin's young being born in this book! I was hoping that I would get to see that at some point in the series.
All in all, this was an immensely enjoyable book, one I will definitely be re-reading soon!
You want Dayo and Raiden's love affair. They have been married 10 years. And it wasn't passion it was a boring married couple.
The Arkhim was an interesting twist.
Now I will have to wait for the next book in the Fangs, fur, and feline series because I am not reading any more of this series.
It took me awhile to get into this book. Mainly because it had been so long since I read the last one. Once I got back up to speed, I really enjoyed it. In this installment, we get Raiden's and Dayo's story and all they go through during their mating. I loved both Raiden and Dayo as the MCs. I absolutely loved the Arkhim.
While I enjoyed this book, it did suffer from a good proofreader. There were a multiple errors that took me out of the story somewhat. Also, this book left a couple of key plot points unanswered. That wouldn't have been so bad, but it also ended in a cliffhanger. Now we have to wait until 2018 before we get the next installment. I definitely think it would be helpful to read the other installments prior to reading this one. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and do recommend it.
I couldn't stop reading it , took me a day to read it.. I was laughing, crying , feeling everything they were going through.. You do have a gift with making the characters come alive.. I was trying to find another series,but this one is the one I will follow to the .......end. Can't wait to read the next one, ...though reading about the 'war' starting ,..makes me a bit nervous since ..it will possibly mean...I hope not...characters dying..sniff. but keep writing this series..Thanks for making my nights..so full of entertainment. ..your very very gifted with building worlds.. ;
