Product Description

3 years and up. A simple balancing game where you place beans in a pot. If the beans drop the game is over. No reading required. 2-4 players.

Amazon.com

After a grownup snaps this smiling red plastic bean pot together, it stands 5 inches tall. The trick is for two to four young children to drop beans onto the pot's lid, one by one, without spilling them. The more beans there are, the more care they must take. If--well, actually, when--they upset the balance of the pot, they spill the beans. And naturally everyone squeals and has a good time. The first person to get rid of all their beans is the winner. This is a fun game for young children, and no reading is required to play, but be sure to keep those beans out of reach of kids who are still apt to put things other than real food in their mouths. --Rebecca Hughes

I agree with the previous reviews. When you first play with the toy, it's boring because it tips after 10 or less beans are used. However, this problem is easy to solve. Before placing the tray on the pot, place some coins in the bottom of the pot. The weighted pot allow the child to place more beans on top. Once we weighted the pot, our three boys had a lot more fun with the game. Now, they get excited as they watch the beans pile up, and when the pot spills it's much more fun to see a large amount of beans topple over than just 10 or less. My three older boys (ages 2-5) really enjoy playing with the game now. In addition, it's a game that they can play without help from an adult which is nice. For the price, it's definitely worth the investment.

Unfortunately it takes very few beans before you "spill the beans". Each player gets about 25 - 30 beans to start the game, but every game my son (3 years old) and I play, we end up spilling over at about 10 beans total. So the game doesn't last long, which takes most of the fun away. And my son is not learning much about balancing things. Even when I've tried to play alone (and I am knowledgable as to how to balance the pot), I still can't get many beans on before it spills.

We really, really do not like this game. It is boring and doesn't work very well. The beans slide off the top with very little tilt and once it does tilt, it stays there. The only redeeming quality is that you can use it for counting. ...

Why did I assume this game was harder than it looked on the box? I mean I bought the box because it was so slim and figured any game in that tiny box cannot be too intricate. I was right, very easy and actually much more fun to play than I originally pegged it for.

After my 5 yr old begged me to help him play it we set out to start putting it together.

Contents:
A base
Two hand like side stands
Two halves of a whole cauldron
A bag of plastic beige beans
A paper that has sticks that you use to decorate the toy itself (such as the eyes, mouths, names, hands etc..)

Once you have everything set up you sinly divide up the beans evenly and take urns placing one bean on top of the cauldron til it tips over. Whomever uses their beans first wins!! You have no idea how many times this can entertain a 5 yr old. After game three I was over it but my son was not having it. The tipping over of the cauldron delighted him to no end.

After game 82 ( since it only takes about a minute or two to win a game or so) we finally called it quits. One thing I really loved is the fact that the cauldron can now house all those loose beans in one secure place til next time. The top lid turns and stays securely. I even fliped it upside down and dance around with it to see how secure it was. Didn't even flinch so I was happy.

This is definetly a game that has the chance to be very entertaining and every young child will love making the cauldron tip over. My child could care less most times the cauldron tipped on his side.

Do I recommend? Yes, not only entertaining but good for teaching how to count and split.

I remember this game from when I was a child. I recently bought this game for my son who just turned four. He absolutely loves it and wants to play it all the time. It does get a little boring after a while for an adult because you have to keep going until someone runs out of beans. Also, I read the other reviews and our game doesn't have a problem tipping over with just a couple of beans. I hope everyone else enjoys this game as much as my son.

I purchased this for my home daycare to play with. We opened it today and tried it out for awhile. I had 2 & 3yr olds and 9 yr olds playing with it. All of the kids had fun but the beans seemed to spill very easily, making for a fast game. I think the concept is great and the kids were quick to learn where to put the beans to make it lean back the other way. But I wish it took longer to spill so they'd have more of a chance to stack up those beans and problem solve. I'm hoping with time they'll get better at it so the fun level increases.

We've only had it a day so I can't really rate the durability. I don't think it'll take a beating, but if we're careful it should last a long time.

We LOVE this game!! My 2 and 5 year old play it with me. My 2 year old could play it for a good 20 minutes before he's over it. My 5 year old gets the concept so usually wins and moves on to more interactive toys. But this is a must for game nights with little ones! They scream and laugh so hard when it tips!!

I bought this as a gift for my daughter's upcoming birthday. She asked for bored games this year and since she will only be turning 6, I wanted to find games that are not too complicated and are fun. I had this game when I was a child and I loved it, so I am sure that she will too.
