The object of the game is to move the balls to the caterpillar's hands (using a pair of tong-like things) while it's dancing. Think you're going to show your kid how it's done? Maybe not! The caterpillar moves rather fast, and the upper arms (which wiggle the most) are pretty difficult to get. My son usually gives up using the tongs and starts using his fingers after a while. We can also play it with the caterpillar turned off, which is still challenging for him.
His younger brother and older sister struggle with it a bit less, but it's still a challenge and a lot of fun. They usually ask to play this about once a week, so I definitely feel like we're getting our money's worth out of it.
I would definitely suggest playing it on the floor, because the balls have a tendency to get dropped and roll away.
