Product Description

Product Description

Guaranteed for life made with steel.

Amazon.com

The Bulldozer is a big brute of a machine in the best Tonka tradition: 12 inches long, 8 inches high at the cab cage, and armed with a 3.5-inch-high, 7.5-inch-wide blade, this cat-tracked bulldozer is built for serious work. Good thing it's too big to fit on a dinner plate, or there would be earthworks made out of unwanted food all over the place. Instead, havoc will probably be confined to the carpet, the sandbox, or some hapless flowerbed. The main body is metal; the detailing and cat-tracks are plastic. The dozer blade can be lowered to grade level or locked half an inch up to get it out of the way. You could push around a pound or two of material with this thing. --Richard Farr

I thought this would be a great toy for our 3 year old grandson. As I
watched him trying to play with it, I was wishing I had gotten something else. If you want a push type toy, this isn't one for that. He's still into running and pushing bigger vehicles. This one isn't tall enough.
Then he tried moving the blade up and down and that proved to be rather
hard and doesn't move much when it does move. Later we took it to the
park so he could play in the sand with it. The rubber tracks kept
coming off. He finally got so frustrated with that, he went to play with
something else. I kept thinking about how much I had paid for this toy
that had turned into such a disappointing experience for him and myself.
If I had know about these things before I purchased it, I would have gone with something else.

My 4 year old is in his "heavy equipment" phase, and so I went ahead and bought the Tonka bulldozer for his birthday. I thought it was a tad expensive, but put out the money because I knew he'd love it, and assumed Tonka put out a quality product. Well its true that my son loves playing with it, but the rubber tread on the dozer wheels keeps slipping off and has to be constantly put on. I don't think it is worth the money its priced at, and would shop around to find a similar product for a cheaper price.

Be careful when looking for the steel version of this toy. I was aiming at getting the the bulldozer which has a steel blade, 2" wide tracks, and is at least 14" long. This one looks enough like the one I had as a kid. It turned out to be about half the size it should have been, the blade is plastic and the tracks are OK and may be durable but I can stretch them enough with one finger to take them off the track. They're only an inch wide.

Can use a roadgrader in the sandbox without one of these bad boys. No longer made in America, but made overseas to American specs. Still the best in the world. My nephews and nieces love these things. I have sent them an entire collection!

My twin boys received these Tonka Bulldozers within the last year. One of the wheel track belts came off and somehow we lost it before we could fix it. After looking for replacements parts everywhere I finally wrote to the company. Today I received a complete replacement of the bulldozer. Amazing customer service! I never heard back after she requested photos of the bulldozer and my address. I was just hoping to not to have to pay for the part. So happy. I loved Tonka as a kid and now my boys do too! And my boys love their Tonka bulldozers, even when the one was missing its track :)

I ordered this for a three year old's birthday party. When I realized the bulldozer wouldn't arrive in time, I went to Toys 'R Us, and got another Tonka toy.

When the bulldozer arrived, I couldn't believe how small it was for the price I paid. I am really disappointed. I feel like the photo offered by Amazon is deceptive because it suggests an appearance of largeness that's inaccurate. I plan to give this to my grandson as a "just because" gift, and can't speak to how well the toy is crafted, or if it will be popular. I just know it's not worth it to mail it back to Amazon, so I will just have to eat this purchase.

If you want a truer sense for how large the toy is, look at the photos submitted here by consumers.

This toy is of a nice size, seems very durable and my grandson is having fun with it. Others said that the tracks came off easily and since they are made of a stretchy rubber material, I can see the argument. I could easily remove them by hand. I think that this is the only complaint that I have however my grandson played with this dozer several times and the tracks have not come off. I think that if he decides to turn it in a short radius or plays with it too roughly that the tracks might come off. New comment as of August 12, 2011 - We are finding that, with use, the tracks have started coming off if the dozer is turned. The left track comes off away from the dozer and the right track comes off toward the dozer, hangs up against the side of the dozer and stops turning.

My 3 YO likes his truck, but it doesn't compete with the Vtech train his 1 YO brother got for his birthday. I'm eager for spring when they can both play with it outside in the dirt. Right now it's in our living room.
