Words cannot describe how terrible this product is. Hasbro's not even phoning it in at this point. They sent a vague sketch off to China, and instructions that "it should kind of work, sometimes." Even those low expectations were not met. The board is not particularly straight, 2 or 3 of the hippos are warped 'up'; the necks extend but typically get stuck and do not retract. It's a complete and utter garbage product, and Hasbro should be ashamed of themselves.

This game is SO cheaply made, words can even describe how horrible it is. However, for humanity sake, and for the sake of saving everyone else wasted time and money....DO NOT buy this product. It’s like a cheap knock off of the original “well made” version I remember playing as a kid. This one is made of cheap plastic, the hippos necks get stuck in the lock position as you are trying to play, and the game doesn’t even sit flat on a surface. The only good thing about this situation is that I purchased Amazon Prime. I received this package today and I’m sending it back as soon as I finish this review.

This game used to be a blast back when it was a quality product. Now, like mouse trap, and elefun, it's such a cheap product that not only do they not work well but my daughter has not interest in playing them. Not because she doesn't like the idea of the game, but you can't play them very well because of the poor quality. The balls are cheap, the hippos get stuck, the board isn't flat. It's horrible. Wish I'd kept the one I had as a kid.

I bought this for my 4 year old son because I remember playing this game as a child. Unfortunately, they don't make things like they used to. The quality of this toy is incredibly poor.
The game itself is made of a cheap, thin plastic that easily bends when in use. The Hippos necks get consistently stuck in the "lunge" position and you need to stop the game to fix at least one Hippo during each round. In addition, the cheap, plastic marbles get stuck in the Hippos necks so they stop "eating" the marbles during the game unless you reach in and try to pry the marbles loose.
In order to set up the game you need to take each Hippo off of the bottom of the board and attach it to the top as everything is stored on the underside of the game. The effort that it takes to set up and store this game properly means that my 4 year old can't play it without my help. I can't imagine that the game will last much longer with any type of heavy use.

Was so excited to get this to play with my son, and was thoroughly disappointed by what we received.
The product is CHEAP and too light weight. The board moves all over when you play because it doesn't have enough weight to it. Even the marbles are light weight plastic and go flying if you hit the dispensing lever too hard. The inside of the hippos does not have enough slope to make the light weight marble roll all the way through the hippo, so they get stuck up in the neck of the hippo.
You have to disassembled the game (remove all of the hippos) to fit it in the box provided which is SO impractical because my son will need to ask me to assemble it anytime he wants to play.
I wish I could get my 1980's version of this game back. You are better off finding an old version of this on eBay or at a garage sale than than buying this cheesy imitation of what once was a great game.

What a piece of crap. You know those toys you see at the dollar store and think "what a piece of crap.. I wouldn't even waste a dollar"
Yeah thats this toy.
GARBAGE
The hippos get stuck to the point where the child CANNOT unlock the jaw from being clamped down. OR the whole hippo comes off the crappy board. Seriously its CRAP

The videos and pictures showing this products flaws are spot on. My mom got this for my four year old for his birthday, we were so excited. I remember my brother and I playing so much she'd hide it from us out of annoyance.
The hippos barely remain attached. You can't really hit the handles fast. You have to make sure they go all the back up, they don't spring fully on their own. If you don't do that it won't lift its head. The necks get jammed. The marbles get stuck.
Furthermore, it comes deconstructed so once put together won't fit back in the box. So I guess I'll have a partially working hippo pond just out and around.
So incredibly disappointed.

As long as this game has been around you would think they would make a better investment into it. First, it has no storing box. The box it comes in you can't use to store it in. So it sits awkwardly on top of the rest of my games and sometimes falls over or gets in the way and then I am chasing balls all night. Also, the lever for munching should be more kid proof, it's small and off, not really good for a toddler. The board seems warped and so one hippo usually gets pretty lucky each feeding session. You can just tell they didn't put a lot of TLC into making it. They get stuck as well. The fun was short lived.

Just a cheap copy
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 29, 2018Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified Purchase
The item was supposed to be a present, but wasn’t well packaged and the box arrived slightly damaged, so not particularly great to start with. We then realised this was not the original Hasbro game as advertised but a cheap copy. We complained and were offered a reduction in price and decided to keep it for ourselves.
Upon trying the game though we discovered that it mentioned ‘English instructions included’ in the box but there weren’t any inside (neither printed on the box).
Even worse the hippos do not work properly and get stuck with every second or third pressing of the lever. Had some rather disappointed kids during the first try already. I wish people wouldn’t mess with kids toys to make some quick profit and just cause disappointment.

Good toy
Reviewed in India on June 1, 2020Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified Purchase
Not used the toy as it is a gift but the box came damaged/torn. Quite disappointing as I got this as a birthday gift for my child. I did a cursory check for damages but it seems fine inside. Nothing seems missing, although all items were scattered inside the Amazon plastic packet since the toy box was completely torn on 2 sides. Will know for sure once the gift is formally opened and assembled. Don't know if the fault lies with the original box quality or Amazon's handling. But since this review is for the toy, I will still give it a 4 star as nothing seems to be lost/broken. Will edit review/rating if damage is found once I assemble it.
Update: The game is working fine after assembly. Nothing broken or lost.

This is a very poor quality toy not even close to funskool. Had to order this because after lockdown they were not delivering funskool. The box is very small and u need to assemble the game so u don’t have a way to store the game once assembled. No place to keep balls. The hippos keeps on coming out from main assembly and also the clips are such poor quality one or other hippos keep on getting stuck.

Amazon Deals waste of money
Reviewed in Canada on March 19, 2021Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified Purchase
Purchased this from “Amazon Warehouse” deals. Not much of a deal. Missing marbels (which were being held in a ziplock bag from someone kitchen?) and the entire play surface was covered in someone’s pets fur. The box also doesn’t have the clear plastic that goes over the open display so everything falls out...
