    The adventure continues!
I was not 100% sure I would get this expansion. Not that it's bad, but because I own a copy of the original release. The earlier expansions have been almost word for word identical to the originals, again that's not a bad thing. The Frozen Horror gave new themed dice and character sheets, this expansion has new themed furniture. Hasbro/Avalon Hill does update this one with some changes in rules, a correction to a potion and a monsters stats. They also sprinkle in some other minor changes. The quest are pretty much the same, you have 3 solo quest to begin where the elf hero has to prove their worth. Then the group quest begin and there are 5 of those leading to the finale of a double quest (quest 9 and 10). There are the familiar updates from old to new Heroquest with references to Chaos being replaced with Dread and mention of Elf Quest now just using the expansion name of Mage of the Mirrors. I also noticed the simply used "the princess" in some places instead of "Princess Millandriell". They also corrected the Potion of Restoration" to now be called "Potion of Superior Restoration" since earlier quest (Keller's Keep for example) had introduced a potion of Restoration that did something different. Moonsilver is now Lunarium, Elven riches are introduced, mercenaries are available (assuming you have the Frozen Horror pack) and they made sure all artifacts are included in the quest book this time! Last time one artifact had a card but was never mentioned in the quest. Quest have some updates as well and since reading beyond this point might include spoilers, PLEASE STOP READING IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ANY SPOILERS! Now that we got that out of the way, let's take a look at what has been updated... First the overall changes, as mentioned earlier they introduced Elven Riches which basically means any chest found without a quest note will automatically have 200GC. In looking through the quest, it seems they have made sure already to update all chest in this quest book. The Ogres now have half the body points! Before they had 10 BP and now they have 5 BP. Should be interesting since they didn't add any extra monsters to the quest from what I've seen. Quest 1 is now The Sovereign Sword Returns. For whatever reason the sword you retrieve has been renamed and thus the quest title has been updated. Also note E was added giving the Elven Bracers as a treasure. This artifact was included with the original Elf Quest but never mentioned in the quest. Quest 2 note D added 200GC to the chest, basically the Elven Riches rule Quest 5 once again is where Moonsilver has been replaced by Lunarium Quest 7 the note C should state equipment card as the toolkit is not an artifact Note H adds 500GC to the chest Quest 8 note C has me wondering what happened if a hero has no equipment to cast aside? Do they get across the quicksand for free without penalty even if they failed the roll? Quest 9 has a new name "Silvermane's Lair" That's all! To me the change with the most impact had to be the Ogre body point change. We'll have to see how it plays out.

This is a really nice addition to the Hero Quest game. Nice quality set with figures and cards. I own the original game (got it as a kid, early 90's?) and the new release. They are very similar, but the new version is a little nicer. The figures are strong and have more details, you can even paint them. The card stock is great, it seems "tougher", like it will last longer, if that makes sense. Anyway, the new add-on's, particularly this one, are great. Me likey:

      + Models are finely updated
+ The original spirit is still intact
+ Everything from the original remains
      + New bonuses added
      + Properly challenging quests
      + Minis not warped
+ The Frozen Horror is as big as he should be

      Me no likey:

      - Pricey for an expansion

Remaking Heroquest was a great move, as the game was ahead of its time, and the designers have been careful to not stray too far from the formula so far. Some might say that they stuck too close to the original, but to me that can be a good thing. Modern home brewing makes games like this way too easy, so it’s nice to see the designers go the opposite route and bring back a little challenge to the table.

The Frozen Horror can be brutal. OGs know what they’re up against already, but new generations experiencing this quest pack for the first time are in for a real treat — IF they’re up for a challenge. The first few quests are solo for the barbarian and, one hero going it alone is dangerous. All four heroes would find these quests plenty perilous, so players will need to resort to a little strategic thinking and, quite possibly, running away from time to time.

The minis here are very well done, and properly scaled, which is nice because some of the original models left a little to be desired. The Frozen Horror in particular, is pretty big compared to the original. What I like most is that these models aren’t warped like the models in the core game were. The materials used in these models also allow for a little abuse without being so brittle.

What I didn’t expect with this reboot is that the designers saw fit to include a fine set of ice colored dice and a pad of Frozen Horror themed character sheets. These are great additions, even if they’re unnecessary. Other notable improvements over the original HQ are equipment cards (instead of a single throwaway sheet), and plastic doors (instead of cardboard).

And truth be told, all these components are necessary to justify the price tag. $50 is a lot of money for an expansion. Granted, this quest pack is bigger than Kellar’s Keep and Return of the Witchlord (those were expensive too, given their size), but that’s still a sizable chunk of change.

Aside from the price, this quest pack is a winner. It stays true to the original while properly updating the components, improves in areas where they’re needed and adds some nice, unexpected bonuses.

I got a damaged box from the seller but thats not an issue as I am a gamer, not a collector.

The expansion itself is ok if you get it cheap. Not much 'new' like the other expansions so this is just basic with the same minis you got in the Gamesystem. Nothing too inspiring and potentially if you aren't a completionist you could skip it or download the booklet and use that to play through the missions.
