Guess Opponents Mystery CharacterThis Guess Who? game goes back to the tabletop style boards, styled after the original, rather than handheld boards. Each player chooses a mystery character and then using yes or no questions, they try to figure out the other player’s mystery character. When they think they know who their opponent's mystery character is, they take a guess. If the guess is wrong, that player loses the game! Players can also challenge opponents to a series of games in the Championship Series, where the first player to win 5 games is the Guess Who? champion. |
Ask Quick and Clever QuestionsPlayers ask yes-or-no questions about their opponent's card, such as 'does your character wear glasses?' If the answer is no, the asker closes the doors on characters with glasses, leaving the remaining possibilities open. If the answer is yes, they close the doors on characters without glasses. This game features characters like David with the red beard, Ashley with the green hat, or Chris with the glasses! Once a player knows their opponent's character, it's time to make a guess. Who will guess right and win the game? |

The game has been updated a bit in the last 25 years in that it no longer is so narrow in how faces/people are conveyed. There is far greater diversity; eyes, hair (color/style), and other aspects of profile are no longer limited to "conventional" norms.
Obviously, at its core, this game is a great play of guess-and-check, but as an adult, my appreciation is rooted more in the way it specifically opens up the way my nieces approach problem-solving and working through logic considerations to make each turn count! You could clearly see the learning taking place from one round to the next as both girls started to think a bit more about the field at large rather than focusing on single traits at random. This was far more evident in the 7 versus 4 year old as we partnered up with each to help, but both responded quickly relative to their respective ages and had a blast doing it!
Cons: The plastic and overall quality of the game board feels cheap, but that's to be somewhat expected. Additionally, while this version feels more diverse than the original, I feel odd about some of the facial descriptions this encourages kids to use due to how overly caricatured some of the people are.
For this game, the board games are all around flimsy. At least half of the yellow card holders are difficult to position upright when you want them upright and sometimes they don’t flip down as easily as you’d like. Often times they come out of socket when propping back up and have to be popped back in.
I would still recommend this game, as well as other classic games (Connect 4, Battleship, etc) that have been updated, but know the quality is not like you remember!
