You have to really put your face in the hole to get any whip cream on your face. My 4 year old doesn't put his face in enough so I have to remind him. But even then you don't get much on your face or it sides off the hand and into the face mask.
I havent tried it with the sponge but it comes with a thin sponge you can wet and side onto the arm.
Overall though, my 4 year old loves this game and it does give a good laugh.
We had some trouble getting the whip cream to hit you in the face properly and the picture borders where you put your face in don't stay in place, this can be fixed by putting some clear tape on the pictures to hold them in place on the dock. Also to properly get "pied" in the face you need to make sure your face is fully inserted into the picture border hole thing or else you wont be getting much of the whip cream on you.
Other than that, it's good for a laugh or two and that's basically it.
On the other hand, my daughter had a great time and laughed and laughed each time her or I got splatted in the face, so she would at least score it a 4, if not a 5.
