The Hatch Specialist NS430 glove is a great solution for this. Made primarily of neoprene, they have a 'second skin' feel and are very grippy. Properly fitted (see more on that below), you can perform all your shooting moves without compromise and still keep your hands warm. These gloves are from Safariland, a top name in shooting sports accessories - so you can feel good about trusting the brand. Very good quality gloves, well designed for action shooting, and durable materials.
When I purchased mine, I was unsure exactly what size I needed, so I checked another pair of normal winter gloves that fit me pretty well and ordered the Large. They fit me okay, but there is a wee bit of extra room at the fingertips that I'd rather not have. Unfortunately, as of this writing, Amazon does not have Medium in stock - so I have ordered a second pair in Medium from Amazon's partner/vendor OpticsPlanet (a very good seller) for about the same price. I will post a photo of the packaging that shows the sizing chart, but just in case; here is the info:
6" = XS
7" = S
8" = M
9" = L
10" = XL
11" = XXL
The length measure is taken from spreading your fingers out wide (like a tree frog) and measuring the distance from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your pinky.
Shooting: Not cumbersome, fit snugly so it's easy to shoot. They also absorb some recoil when you're shooting in the cold so it doesn't hurt my baby smooth office boy hands.
I've also changed my battery in my vehicle when it was so cold (and my wife left the lights in the vehicle on all night) so the battery heated up and was frozen on the outside, pushing battery acid out the top. I got battery acid all over these and also gooey crap schmegma from the battery acid etc...cleaned up nice didn't burn my baby smooth office boy hands.
No blisters while shoveling this winter, I hate calluses.
If you wear them all day, it greatly prolongs the time between man-i-cures.
There really hasn't been a purpose where I haven't worn them...they work on touch control smartphones as well although not as accurate as the pads of my baby smooth office boy fingertips.
They are also a little clunky while I'm trying to write this review...
Over the last few years, our 14 year old has taken several safety and tactical courses offered by our range safety officers. He has become very proficient, and even bested one RSO's high score on their shotgun simulator's dove hunting program. He has a smaller frame (5' 6" and 115 pounds) but longer fingers, so these gloves are an excellent fit for him. In addition, the velcro-style wrist closure allows him to quickly and easily adjust fit whenever he feels the need to.
The neoprene construction allows them to get wet without issue, and to dry fairly quickly. Their durability is probably as to be expected; after a few months of six to eight hours of heavy use per weekend, wear and tear was apparent at the finger and thumb seams. Acceptable at the price as we can buy four or five pairs for the price of a single premium pair, and in total these would last two or three times longer.
There have been times when he noted that his hands got a bit sweaty and hot... it has been a very hot, humid summer around here. Do not recollect any complaints of extreme cold in the winter though.
All in all, very acceptable. Have and will buy again.
