My daughter just opened her hatchimal on 12/9. Within 30 minutes, it was broken. The eyes stay yellow and it makes no noise, while the beak opens and closes. I have tried taking the batteries out and changing them too, to no avail. I called customer service, and while the person I spoke to was helpful, the lead time to get this toy fixed or replaced is 4-6 weeks. I have to return it, have it assessed by the Quality Assurance team, and then wait for a decision to be made. This isn't a car or a mortgage, it's a $40 toy. Just send me a new one already! I'll gladly send the old one back regardless. I find the process to be ridiculous.

I wish I could say that this was the best purchase ever.. but sadly I can not because honestly I don’t know. My daughter JUST opened it and it didn’t do as it was supposed to. I followed the instructions to the key and there were no noises or sounds. We watched the video Incase I was doing something wrong and we did everything correctly. So she had to hatch it herself , and not have the experience of it hatching. Come to find out that the batteries were dead. I hope it works fine after we put batteries in it. I’m just very disappointed that my husband and I spent good money for our daughter not to have the experience we wanted her to have. I am just happy that she has an amazing attitude and a gracious spirit and is playing with it still even though it doesn’t work right now... hopefully when we get new batteries in it , it will

12/25/18: This was a gift from Santa... my daughter had been asking for a Hatchimal for a long time. She was so delighted when Santa gave it to her for Christmas. We opened it, and were delighted with the immediate interaction. It wiggled, tapped, chattered... actually pretty cool. Sadly it only lasted for maybe five minutes or so. It glowed rainbow eyes, which was supposed to mean it was getting ready to hatch, so she got super excited. Then, it just went quiet. Stopped chattering, stopped vibrating and tapping, stopped glowing. We got a stillborn apparently. :( I’m asking “Santa” for a product replacement...we’ll give it a 2nd Chance. Sure hope we have better luck with the next one! I‘ll try to remember to update this review when the 2nd one arrives.

Tap the egg. Don’t throw out the high chair

Make sure you read the directions to get it to hatch or it will take forever. I couldn’t get it to hatch but my 6 yo nephew was able too, go figure. I also bought the twins, and with them I got it to hatch very quickly. If they are similar, because it’s too late to go and try it on this one since it’s already hatched, tapping on the egg seemed to worked very well!
Make sure you do not throw out the shell before taking out the blue or pink “high chair” depending on which one you get. I didn’t realize it was actually a play piece until the next day when I was browsing Amazon again.
My 3 yo daughter enjoys playing with it. Her favorite part is the eyes lighting up. She has no idea what it means they because she can’t read yet so I have to read the pamphlet to let her know.... don’t throw that out either!

My daughter waited ages to get one of these and we (Santa) finally got her one because it was the top wish on her Christmas list. We do a very humble and small Christmas, so this was her main gift. She was nearly crying with excitement when she opened it, but that soon became sad tears. The baby never hatched out of the egg. We spent 2 days doing all the troubleshooting and tips. We decided to hatch it ourselves (which basically defeated the purpose...the whole reason she wanted it was because it hatches itself). When we hatched it, it still wasn't working. We did new batteries, we did the reset and troubleshooting, and it never worked. The eyes glowed green for a minute, then the thing turned off. It never talked or did any of the things it's supposed to. Worst part is that we opened it at the family party, so all the packaging was thrown away before we got the chance to return it. So we're stuck with an expensive, broken dud of a toy that was supposed to be her big gift. It was a disappointing experience, to say the least. She keeps asking me why Santa would send her a "sick" toy.

I got these for my girls for Easter and thought they'd enjoy waiting for it to hatch as entertainment during quarantine. I expected it to take a day or so to hatch, but the first one only took an hour once it was activated, so not a lot of anticipation there. Unfortunately, the second one shut off after a few minutes of play in the egg form, and we were never able to get it started again. We thought about returning it, but just let our daughter crack the egg open herself. She still had fun with it. Fortunately, the animal inside still worked even though the egg was defective and both kids still happily play with them. They love the accessories and the color coded emotions and ways to care for them are really engaging to the kids, so that's why the 4 star rating. If the egg portion had worked the way it should, I would have given it 5.

What a sad ordeal. This was ALL my daughter wanted for her birthday. Today was her party. She was so excited to see she got her wish. That’s when the happiness ended. With all of her friends and family gathered around waiting for this thing to hatch, the eyes inside lit up, and you could hear the noise for a second fade to nothing because apparently, the batteries died WHILE it was still in the egg! My little girl walked around rubbing the egg and following all of the instructions for three hours. It never made a single noise. Dead on arrival. Never hatched. Needless to say she was beyond disappointed and I felt like a huge jerk for giving her a broken toy that she’d begged for. I will definitely be taking this up with amazon or the manufacturer etc. what a cruel joke.

My daughter wanted them so badly, after unwrapping the excessive amount of packaging, and then waiting for a long time for them to crack the egg (even more excessive packaging), they came out to the world. Since Christmas morning, which she played with them for about 20 minutes, she has probably turned them on 4 times. #1 issue, they are not cuddly, they are hard and therefore are not lugged around to bed, screen time or other. A total waste IMHO.

Hatching this was very exciting and a lot of fun! The egg needs to be constantly rocked, rubbed and played with in order to finish the hatching process. Basically you are pretending this is a real baby/egg and need to give the attention it needs. The instructions were very helpful and straightforward for the hatching process (you can't go wrong if you follow them) and for afterwards, including what the sounds and noises (tapping) meant and how to "wake up" the egg/baby. Like a real egg it does take time to hatch (ours hatched in half a day... So probably an hour of playing with the egg nonstop) and requires patience, but that was all part of the fun for everyone. My 6 year old daughter (and her older and younger brothers) is still loving it a month later and she has enjoyed getting to know her baby and all of the things it can do. Great toy for any child that loves animals and/or babies.

An hour Later of research and trying everything I came across a video saying to reset it by sticking the plastic key like piece back in the bottom and twisting it a few times..finally! It's back on!! But wait, there's more..once we got the thing back on it took over an hour to hatch the this thing..an hour..omg..a big big no to any future hatchimals in this house.
