Guys. GUYS. Cole is rough and ready on the best of days. On the worst, he's a little like a wild animal. Well, up until his heart finally convinces his head that all those emotions boiling between him and Hailey were more than just temporary. Then he goes from plain wild animal to fiercely protective wild animal. Which doesn't sound like much of a change, BUT IT WAS. Oh, it was.
Meanwhile, Hailey's halfway to convincing herself Cole is just a tough, super hot man she needs to boink and get out of her system. Then he does something sweet and she goes all gooey and ...YEAH, he's not getting out of your system, lady. He's in there good and deep.
Cole's life is complicated and Hailey's family is a nightmare. He doesn't want to ruin her life by dragging her into what he's involved in and, yet, he can't keep away. As it turns out, Hailey's life is as complicated as Cole's, her family just has the blue-blood connections needed to keep it on the down-low.
Basically, these two are perfect together. Even when things get sticky.

Cole loathes the people he takes as clients. Haley can't stand to be a part of her family. She is completely opposite of those in her family and just wants to be left alone. Cole can't let her. And he doesn't want to leave her alone. They both want each other but for months it just wouldn't come together. Neither wanted to admit their attraction and Haley's aversion to doing anything Cole says really riles him up. But now a new pr nightmare has begun and once again, Haley is drawn back into the family drama and this time it just may be her end. Can Cole save her before it's too late?
Twists and turns abound in the bundle. Just when you think you've got it figured out, it goes sideways again. Ainsley out did herself with this book. There will be other books for the Horus Group and you'll get a little peek at what's up next at the end of this.
I liked Hailey. She is a smart, sassy, and temperamental woman with a really dysfunctional family. Cole is a partner with a group who cleans up shocking messes of wealthy, influential people, which is how he meets Hailey, but it's the rare glimpses of vulnerability I saw that made me curious about Cole's background and why he was such an enigma. There is no denying Cole and Hailey have chemistry together-I mean they have it in spades-but I was hoping for more substance to their relationship-especially when I read the ending! This book contains a lot of sex, a defunct family who can make bad guys look sane, a curvy girl who can kick a** when threatened, and a man who does dirty talk like it's nobody's business!
As a complete book this one really works and it doesn't have any awkward cliffhanger moments. The book centers around the uber wealthy REID family and it's fixers The Horus Group. One of the heads of the firm is Cole Parker ex military alpha male, which works in this story as he actually walk the walk and know the lingo. He gets entangled with the second eldest daughter of the REID family, the girl who wants nothing to do with the money or power her family holds. Hailey is actually a very believable down to earth character, which the plot needs for balance as the novel is a suspense thriller. The plot has a lot of current events tied into it. Especially if you follow the news and what despicable uber wealthy people will do with too much money and no social or moral boundaries to hem them in. In fact at one point I stopped myself from googling the one bad guy in the book, because the plot is believable, as sex slave trade amongst the rich has resulted in some very high profile people being in the news. Plus a James Patterson non fiction book scheduled for the fall.
Between the two main characters it is Cole that is primarily transformed by love. But Hailey does have to learn to trust, something that in the world she was raised in never came easily.
This isn't all about suspense and thrills, as there is plenty of down and dirty between Hailey and Cole. But unlike some books, the down and dirty is back by a really compelling story.
There were some minor ick factors in the big reveal, as Cole goes about making sure Hailey and younger sibling is safe.
I liked Cole. I liked how he had a past, realized it's inadequacy and plowed forward regardless.
Hailey, while she felt more developed than Cole, had less of an impact on me. This was Cole's story, not Hailey's. I would've liked to have seen more interaction between her and her family.
The parts that annoyed me were how information made it to Cole without us knowing about it until after a confrontation. It became super annoying when Cole confronts Amelia, Hailey's mom, and we learn about it as it unfolds.
I will read other books by Ms. Booth, eagerly awaiting Ellie and Jason.
