Since I read ALOT, I thought maybe I knew where the story was going - NOPE. I thought maybe I figured out how the ending would unravel - NOPE. One of the things why I love reading this author is the "real" factor. Her characters are REAL. We all know people like Cathy, Joanna-Rose and Fleur. We all know people like Derrick.
Basic story line is 3 grieving widows who are members of a Facebook page, realize something in common and reach out to each other. They all have issues, and grieve in their own way - and the adventure they go on - just get ready!!!
So caution below on spoilers in the story... And trust me, you don't want to know!!!
Fleur. WOW. I love her. At first, I thought, OMG, I want to be her, then I thought, OMG, I can never be her - but you come back around! Her one liners. I found myself highlighting the OMG ones, and when finished, I saw I had almost every page highlighted!! Her quick wit, sarcasm, twisted remarks - LOVE HER!!! I want more Fleur!!!! I honestly laughed out loud NUMEROUS times. I can't ever look at lobsters or lube the same way!
The story develops, the women learn about each other, from each other - all in the most insane way possible. It isn't just the grieving they handle, but each other, themselves - all in a humorous way, and without sounding like a trip to a counselor! The author handled relationships, friendships, life and what it handles you in a great and funny way!
My criticism - again, I'm a SUPER picky reader, but I did catch a typo/consistency on something that made me just re-read the sentence. (it as the butter with Derrick and the hand clasping with the minister). This is TOTALLY picky and it does not detract from the story or the paragraph, I just happened to catch it..
I can't wait for the next book from this author! I will pre-order the minute I know it's available!!

I can only describe it as a farce (in the nice, theatrical sense).
Three widows in their later years join a group on fb. Little did they know they were all connected by one photograph.
The characters are well developed, and Fleur in particular is wonderfully whacky.
There's a wonderful adventure of misadventures as they seek answers to help them with their bereavement.
We are taken to Islay in Scotland to enjoy some beautiful scenery as well.
A very sad topic given a wonderful sense of humour which I found refreshing.
I think there are important messages outlined within the book (without revealing spoilers) and I felt the authors voice within the text. This made it a little more personal because you realise how some people are not aware of the way the world and its people are changing. It is clear there are issues within the book that should be addressed more often, well done Heather Hill for covering them.
In some parts I did feel the story was being dragged out a little and maybe could have been cut shorter but it didn't stop me from reading. I wanted to find out what was going to happen and where the three widows were going to end up. For me, characters building did not lack in this book, I think it was fairly strong.
By the way, this book is one book that made me smile at the end, I loved the ending as it wasn't complicated or ended in a sweet love story and you don't lose focus of what previously happened.
Overall a great read and I think it is one people should give a chance.
This was not the humorous read that I was expecting and although an easy read left me wondering in several ways. The characters are likeable but there is not the depth to them as there should be. This was a long book for what really was a shorter story line, filled out with descriptions not relevant to the story line. Sorry but not for me.
I guess the detailed bodily functions of the ladies had become hard to bear.
Good ideas but a touch too graphic.....
