If you've been on the internet for any amount of time, chances are you've stumbled across some vocaloid songs. Done entirely without any human voice actors, all synthetic voices that sound very human like. This game showcases some of the best songs people have made using them.
First off, there's hangout mode. This is where you can simply select one of six vocaloids to hang out with and do things like give them money, snacks, play a very addicting little minigame with them. My advice for this mode is give all of the money you want to spend on your vocaloid directly to them as an allowance, as it's much more fun to see what outfits and room items they buy with the money as compared to just buying everything yourself. Not much of a game here, but enough content and cuteness to keep you interested.
Then there's the main game, the rhythm game. There are LOADS of songs you play through and rewatch as videos only after completing them. It's just like any rhythm game but easier in some places and much more difficult in the others. I prefer to play on the easy touch mode, it presents enough of a challenge for me. You may not see some more recognizable songs on the list, such as Triple Baka, but they did get World is Mine, Electric Angel, Happy Synthesizer and Ageage Again.
The last section of the game is a Tetris-like minigame that honestly doesn't give enough money to keep me interested, but is fun every now and again. The CPU opponents are also way too good at this game.
Some other big ups is the 3D effects are serious amazing. Say what you want about the 3DS 3D, but this game showcases it's abilities amazingly. There were times while watching the music videos where I honestly had to look away from the screen for a few seconds to remember where I was. I don't recommend playing the rhythm game with it on, but anytime you watch one of the videos back, it NEEDS to be on.
You know if you'd like this game or not just based on the genre and the subject. If you like rhythm games and vocaloids, it's a must have, otherwise, you can pass it up.
Pros.
It's on the Nintendo 3ds. I don't own a Sony Playstation system.
The controls are in English.
The game was released in the UK and US.
The Western version has one extra song that the original Japanese doesn't have .
Vocaloid idols are more well behaved then some human "pop stars"
Relatively easy to get into the groove for gamers like me who suck at rhythm games.
Perfect for Otaku like me. Has cool JPop songs. You can dress your favorite idol in cute clothes like Yukata.
Cons.
Saga did not give any of the songs proper translations . But at least they put the lyrics Romanji. That's Japanese words photonically spelled out in English .
Our version of the launch/collector edition is very different from the original Japanese . Ours only came with a box, wallet strap, game and AR cards.
The Japanese version has a bigger box, game, AR cards, Hatsune Miku Nendroid figure and stickers. FYI I only got the normal version with the AR cards but I did my homework .
Like I said this is my first Vocaloid game ever. I'm very happy ! I have never owned or played on before because I don't own the right consoles or read Japanese . But that doesn't mean that I am new to Vocaloid ! I have been watching and listening to Vocaloid songs on YouTube for a while! I even watched Hatsune Miku preform on David Letterman with my mom.
I enjoy this game a lot and highly recommend it .
There are two type of game modes in Project Mirai DX: Button and Tap! Both modes can be played through 3 (some songs have 4) difficulties and both holster their own strategy and use of rhythm. With about 36 songs total, the game offers plenty to do - even after you've played through all of the songs. Each song has a great replay value too.
There's more than just the rhythm game as well! You can dress up and hang out with any of the 6 Vocaloids; mix and match their outfit and style, feed them snacks, refurbish their homes, and take them on vacation! There's also plenty of items that each vocaloid will interact with randomly. You can also play puyo - a classic game of color matching and stacking that is quite fun! There's also chinese checkers as a mini game. Another great feature of the game is the dance studio - where you can create original dances for any of the songs and watch them.
There's a whole lot offered in this game, and I love playing it. It is one of my favorite 3DS games, and I highly recommend it!
