The story has overtones of a Romance novel, but it's a well-developed story with well-developed characters. Ms. Sandifer does a good job of depicting with accuracy the setting. Having been raised on a farm in that part of Southeast Idaho during the 1940s and spending my entire adult life in that area, myself, I can attest that she knows of what she writes. Caribou City has long ago disappeared into stone foundations where the buildings once were, but Eagle Rock is, now, the thriving metropolis of Idaho Falls as predicted in the story by Hattie’s brother, Billy.
If you are a Historical Western fan and don’t mind overtones of Romance, I think you will enjoy this story.
Ms. Sandifer’s characters are well developed and multi-dimensional, and Jim and Hattie play well off each other..
