Sarah is a girl that just likes to be mellow around the house and at work. Her BFF Ellie is the one that is more outgoing and crazy. One night Ellie takes Sarah out on a ghost hunt, but Sarah is one of the skeptics just thinks its all fake, until she finds a hidden treasure, a ring.
She cleans off the ring and keeps it with her at all times, but things start going good for her, but bad in the love department. James her BF of five years has now become a mean son of a b*tch who is just jealous and very violent.
That's when he James "Tanner" Dawson appears to her, but she thinks she's going nuts. He needs her as much as she needs him and they can't seem to be apart, but they can't be together forever, seems our hero is a ghost and is on borrowed time since she found the ring.
Now things start to get stranger and stranger, but it's not until Tanner start to let Sarah know his life story and about the hex that was put on him by a witch named Sylvia and that Sarah, now is his only hope.
If you like a story about romance, drama, suspense, sex, ghosts, then you will really enjoy this one.
Sarah Knight is skeptic about the ghost tour her best friend drags her on. The whole experience is kind of a bust, but before she leaves Chatham Manor, she finds an old and mysterious ring. She doesn't know it contains the spirit of a cursed Civil War soldier.
Lieutenant James "Tanner" Dawson was the paranormal liaison between the Union army and the witch they employed to help ensure their win at Fredericksburg. When he spurns her advances, she curses him to an eternity inside a ring unless he can find true love.
How can a ghost win the heart of a living woman if he can't communicate with her directly? Why, he writes letters, of course! And he discovers that if he can pull from the energy of others, he can not only write, but he can become corporeal as well. As Sarah learns about the curse that ruined Tanner's life and plagues his death, others turn onto the fact that she's researching him and a powerful old grimoire. If they survive the danger, maybe they can free him from the ring. But a hex isn't easy to break and the results could free him or tear them apart until the end of time.
As always, Lisa's characters are deep, sympathetic, and human in all the best ways. The writing is a nice blend of funny and touching, and the whole story will leave you wanting more from the mind of Medley. I couldn't put this book down because it incorporated my love of history, the paranormal, and deep romance.
It doesn't derail the story, or make the steamy scenes any less steamy; quite the contrary, it enhances them.
No matter how flawed or wounded our main characters may be, there is a very clear line of demarcation between the good guys and the bad guys. Gone are the days of romance novels old when the supposed “hero” would rape the heroine, but feel really bad about it, only have her forget the brutality and fall in love with him at the end.
Consent is Sexy and Ms. Medley demonstrates that so very well.
I loved how Sarah was dealt blow after blow (sometimes literally) and didn't let it turn her into a weak victim. She held strong and was still sweet enough to fall for Tanner's old fashioned 'wooing'.
The Brothers of Peril angle was very cool and made me wonder if there is a spinoff book out there that tells Agent Sykes' love story and shows us how BOP is running in present day.
I recommend this book by Lisa Medley for your collection. "Haunt My Heart" is well written, with intelligence, humor and some gentleness. Very nice. Kudos to Ms. Medley!
