Haunted Hearts: A slow-burn, small town, enemies to lovers, ex-military standalone (Little Hope series Book 1) Kindle Edition
“My heart demands I be near this broken man. Maybe we can be broken together.”
The only thing I’ve ever wanted was to be left alone in my secluded cabin, deep in the woods. I wear my scars as a badge of dishonor to ensure that people will stay away from me. And severe PTSD after years in the Navy just about seals the deal.
And this is how I like it: alone and quiet…
Until a beautiful trouble gets dumped on my doorstep.
The only thing I want is to fix my car and get the hell away from Little Hope, where I got stuck thanks to a popped tire and ‘helpful’ locals. Unfortunately, fate - apparently - has other plans for me.
That’s how I find myself at Alex’s doorstep. A local ex-navy recluse, Alex is rude, obnoxious, and scorching as hell with his grumpiness and f-off attitude.
I just want to run from this little town and from this growly man people constantly warn me about. But why does he suddenly feel like home?
They say All Roads Lead to Maine. But do they end there?
This slow-burn, strangers-to-enemies-to-lovers, contemporary romance is a standalone filled with angst, battling the demons of the past, and finding peace. Each book contains a story about a different couple. No cheating. No cliffhangers. HEA.
TW: PTSD, anger issues, mentioning of abusive relationships (for FMC in the past, not from MMC). Strong language and adult situations.

She is on the run from her abusive ex, hiding from him and hiding a secret. Car trouble lands her in small town he!l where everyone knows everyone else and thinks they know everything about everyone. The local mechanic is a little sly with what he's doing, the local cop has issues, and the sheriff is related to the recluse. The same recluse half the town seems to hate and warn her away from, while the other half is trying to play matchmaker. But trouble follows her everywhere, and the people she is starting to care about get hurt because of her past. He promised to keep her safe, but his ex and his issues get in the way. Who will be left to forgive if not everyone survives?
There were a few typos that really caught my attention, and a few places that could have been further expanded. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story plot line.
This is Ariana Crane’s debut novel and she absolutely rocked it. Alex and Freya are both damaged in their own ways but they come together wonderfully. What I loved was that they both inspired the other to get better. I loved Freya and her strength and her tenacity. Alex, baby boy, I loved that he finally opened himself up to Freya and his family despite the past. The spicy scenes were hot and heavy and you could feel the chemistry between these two. With an amazing couple, wonderful side characters, and the thriller like plot once when it picked up, Ariana Crane is an author to look out for in the future. I can’t wait for Kayla and Justin’s story and more of Little Hope, Maine! X
Tw for Domestic Abuse (not from the hero) and PTSD and violence (not to the heroine from the hero). Wonderfully done, Ariana!
Freya learns quickly that small towns have their good and bad traits depending on how you look at it when she breaks down in middle of nowhere Maine. The town has enough drama to fill a book but it has a heart when well-meaning people try to set her up with the local recluse, Alex, who for some reason responds to her in a way never done before.
It’s a slow burn but between their banter, his darkness and her ex it will keep you enthralled. Both Alex and Freya are characters you’ll root for and though there is things holding both back you’re glad they find their HEA.
Can’t wait to see what happens further in this little town that has some drama involving others that I’m dying to know what caused their issues.
This is a very powerful read about acceptance, redemption and new/second chances. I had the feels the entire time. Alex and Freya. Two completely flawed and scarred characters, that fit together and make each other whole.
Not gonna lie, I totally cried (but I think I always do. I’m definitely sappy). If you’re looking for something to give you the feels this is for you. The story is full of angst and let’s be honest quite a bit of sexual tension. The steamy scenes are sweet and lightly explicit. A #TBR story for sure!
