The book's language is simple and dramatic, and some of the more difficult words such as `bellhop,' `speakeasy,' and `phantom' are defined in a glossary. An adult could probably read through "Haunted Hotels" in less than half-an-hour. The stories within are: "A Gambler with a Grudge" (St. James Hotel, Cimarron, New Mexico); "Who was Kate Morgan?" (Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California); "The Gray Ghost" (Queen Mary Floating Hotel, Port of Long Beach, California); "Party on the 13th Floor" (Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, Florida); "A Hotel or a Hospital?" (Hotel Provincial, New Orleans, Louisiana); "A Fiery Spirit" (Old Bermuda Inn, Staten Island, New York); "A Stranger at the Inn" (Jamaica Inn, Cornwall, England); "The Worst Wedding Day" (The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, Alberta, Canada); "The Captain Says Hello" (The Olde Angel Inn, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada); "A Jealous Spirit" (The Feathers Hotel, Ludlow, Shropshire, England); "The Ghost of Room 218" (The Crescent Hotel, Eureka Springs, Arkansas).
A map, bibliography, glossary, index, and an internet site where a reader can learn more about ghostly hotels are provided at the back of this 32-page book.
