Dear Reader:

If you are new to the Hours of the Night and concerned about reading out of order, please don't worry. Haunted is a standalone story within the Hours of the Night universe. It takes place outside the series storyline and follows completely new characters.You can jump in here without needing to know any background and there are no spoilers that would ruin the regular series if you choose to read later.

If you are curious about the events that bring Adam and Noel together, they take place in Vespers and Nocturne, but have no direct bearing on this story except as setting.

If you are already an Hours of the Night fan, Haunted takes place concurrently with Nocturne. You might recognize the neighborhood and even a few of Adam's neighbors.

Haunted is a stand-alone (it does help, but isn't necessary, to have read the Hours of the Night series) short introducing two new characters who are indirectly tied to to Thad and Sara from the aforementioned series.

Noel Chandler (a former cop turned insurance adjuster who is in denial of certain abilities he may have regarding the supernatural) meets Adam Morales (an investigator/historian for the TV show Haunts and Hoaxes) when he's assigned to check out the burned wreckage of Thad's house. Their attraction is immediate and the story is a fast-paced, sexy, spooky and fun. I enjoyed these two characters who are gritty and edgy, different from Thad and Sara and sparks would fly if the two couples ever met (hint, hint). I hope Ms. Rancourt and Ms. Preston continue on with their story because I think Noel and Adam have some cool and creepy adventures in their future.

My only complaint: I was swiping happily on my Kindle, engaged in the story, when it abruptly ended. I knew it was short, but I didn't see the end coming as fast and complete as it did.

Although the storyline would have been decent, if it had been a full story, the execution was not. It was difficult to impossible to figure out who was speaking. There wasn’t even a completion enough of the story to qualify it as a novella. The characters seem to be turned around, the strong one was not who would be considered the strong one of the two. I’m sorry, it’s just all messed up.

Noel is an unhappy gay ex-cop turned insurance investigator who spends a lot of time in bars getting as close to drunk as possible. He’s assigned an unusual case of a house fire. When Noel goes to the house to investigate, he meets Adam who gives him a cock-n-bull story about why he was in the house. Adam is a TV host and historian of HAUNTS AND HOAXES where he and his investigators try to prove or disprove the likelihood that a place is haunted. Together Noel and Adam find some common ground in the mystery of the burned-out house and a potential relationship.
First let me say that this storyline is not my normal genre but I wasn’t all that impressed. I wanted more, just more and maybe that’s the point b/c to me this ended on a cliffhanger. The unfortunate part is that in reading the back of this ARC it appears that Noel and Adam are NOT the characters in future books of this serial. I want more Noel and Adam! This relationship and Noel’s ability to connect with ghosts is fascinating. I’ll admit the authors made me feel sorry for Noel but I want to know why he left LA, how he can afford to wear designer clothes and drive a Lexus. I want to know what happens next to Noel and Adam! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and would give it 3.5 if that was possible.

This was a very quick read and I understand that it is a spinoff of "Vespers" and "Nocturne. I disagree with the authors that you really don't need to read these two books as the characters in "Haunted" are not connected to Thad and Sari in the other books. THad's house burns and brings Noel, an ex-cop and now insurance agent to the house as it connects with another house that Sari was involved in. He meets Adam and he hides strange occurrences that happen happen to him. The book is good, but not nearly long enough. The ending is quick and there are no resolutions to any of the happenings that occur to Noel. Adam gets an epiphany and away they go to start from the beginning. Unfortunately the readers can't go with them. I hope that this becomes a series as Noe and Adam deserve a story better than this. So my plea goes out for more stories on these two and a quicker return time than have been displayed for the "Hours of the Night" series.

Such a great short addition to the Hours of the Night Series, although it cane be read as a standalone, no worries. After the fire that destroyed a house in the beautiful Garden District in New Orleans, Noel Chandler is brought in to investigate from the insurance company. His investigation leads him to Adam Morales, who is doing a bit of an investigation of his own. He is from a popular show called Haunts and Hoaxes. This might seem like a conflict of interests, but not in the way you may think.

Noel and Chandler are such unique and layers characters. I really enjoyed getting to know them as individuals and I loved them even more together. I knew the chemistry between them would be hot, but I also found it real. They are conflicted with themselves and regarding coming together at all.

This story definitely adds some depth to an incident from the actual series, but also seems to start one of it's one. Who knows. I would be game! This is such a good story, I want more!

A Spooky Sexy Paranormal Story in New Orleans... Hoping there will be more!

Wow! Not quite sure what I was expecting when I started to read this, but the author sorta blew me away with this story. Though this story is complete in and of itself, the ending definitely hints at the possibility for a series based on these two MCs in the future. I know I am totally wanting a lot more stories with Noel, Adam and the supernatural! I am totally hooked... in just 60 pages the author not only creates two engaging real MCs but also creates plenty of mystery along with enough suspense and spookiness, not to mention so scorching hot sex to make me want so much more of Adam and Noel!

This is Noel and Adams story. Adam is the historian for a cable show and Noel left the L.A.P.D To become an insurance investigator. I must say if you did not read Vespers and Nocturne regardless of what the book blurb says you may not understand wha s going on. Also writing this book as a short story did it no favors. Don’t get me wrong it was a nice short story but it left to much unsaid and it ends like it should be in a series and I hope book won’t comes out real soon as Noel and Adams story was not complete. I received an ARC and voluntarily left a review.

I love stories that takes place in New Orleans and it's definitely a great feature as a ghost/love story. It's almost like you just get a taste of Adam and Noel and just when the story gets really interesting it literally ends.
