Since the Halloween my daughters were old enough to say "trick or treat" aloud (not whispered from behind us), they've become interested in haunted houses. We've been careful/lucky to not actually scare them with anything too frightening and they enjoy thinking they're being brave. They even went on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland and said it was one of their favorites! (I secretly think they were too short to see everything.) So I knew they could handle this book.
This is a cute book with rhymes that walk the reader through a "haunted house". The narrator takes the place of a parent escorting their child through. Each scene has a short description of a monster or a ghost or an object that might be scary. Nothing actually threatens or chases the reader. The illustrations are good and my children were happy to point out little details like spiders or cats they found in the room. This is a nice book to enjoy with your little thrill seekers.
