Just a little compilation of a few short stories, of true life happenings the author has experienced.
Don't get me wrong, not all of the ghosts stories that Cross tells are about bad ghosts. In fact the first story is actually about a very nice one that saved her life. But her recounting of her experience had me remembering my own encounters of the paranormal kind and I found myself pulling the blanket tighter in anticipation of what her next story would bring. Because if you've had more than one ghostly encounter it's almost guaranteed that there is going to be a creepy one!
Cross recounted her stories in such a way that I felt like I was there. Great creepy factor! I got so wrapped up in her stories I actually jumped halfway out of my skin when the cat knocked something off the counter in the next room. (At least I think it was the cat, and I'm going to keep thinking it was the cat so I don't scare myself even more! Lol) The only regret I have with this one is that it was sooo short! Only four stories! So wish there were more! Definitely going to look into picking up more of this writers work, even if they aren't ghost stories. Her writing kept my attention and I am interested in seeing if she can keep that going in anything else she writes as well.
I love ghost stories. I love to feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck when I hear a really god one. I especially love the true ones that actually happened to people. Reality is much more frightening than fiction, in my opinion. I have had a couple of my own ghostly encounters, so I can respect others who claim the same.
I volunteered to read Haunted by Willow Cross and to honestly review it in exchange for a free copy. This collection of short stories are actual events that took place in her life. I believe that those who open themselves up to the possibility of supernatural encounters are more likely to have the honor of experiencing them. She does.
She starts with a protective ghost who took care of her and her roommate after she graduated from high school. Others tell about ghostly encounters she experienced when her family was still young. The dedication of this book is to her children, as they can use this book for family memories as they get older and share with their own children. I think the creepiest one is definitely the final story "Dream Home." Anything involving a ghost child makes the hair on my arms stand up.
This book is definitely a short and easy read. I got through it in less than a half hour, making it a nice distraction after dinner. I felt like it read more like a few blog posts as opposed to a story. In that regard, it does feel more personal and real, like Willow Cross is sitting with you telling you all about her experiences. I can't help but think how creepy the stories would be if they were told in third person. Or perhaps some if some of the interjected commentary was removed I would have found them a bit more creepy.Read more ›
if you're looking for scary stories that will leave you up all night, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. However, for parents of tweens who are all about the supernatural but not ready to be scared out of their pants, this may be a good read.
All in all, the writing and stories were lackluster, and it's not a book I would recommend to anyone seeking a good thrill. However, it was a quick read that kept me mildly entertained for half an hour or so.

I thought the book was OK. I am a believer in spirits/ghosts. This book is a very easy read and it will make you uneasy about moving to a new place to live.Published 1 month ago by Tiffany Zagorski
