To Have and to Harm (Remedy) (Volume 2) Paperback – May 9, 2014
About the Author
Debra Doxer was born in Boston, and other than a few lost years in the California sunshine, she has always resided in the Boston area. She writes fiction, technical software documents, illegible scribbles on sticky notes, and texts that get mangled by AutoCorrect. She writes for a living, and she writes for fun. When her daughter asks when she’ll run out of words, her response always is, “When I run out of time.”

- I liked that Rae accepts her gift and learns how to use it while testing its limits.
- Luca is so devoted to Rae and will fight for her even if it means he will get hurt in the process.
- There are some despicable characters in this story and the extent of their evil ways is quite surprising. The evil is mostly selfishness on their part, but it makes you despise them because of who they are in Rae’s life.
- Debra Doxer’s writing style is easy to follow and tells us the story from both Rae and Luca’s perspective.
- Luca is a strong character and is very sure of himself without being big-headed about it. There are also some great and insightful secondary characters as well who are a wealth of information.
- Rae is constantly in emotional turmoil and feeling bad for bringing Lucas into this. This happens all to often for me and she begins to sound very sorry for herself in the process. This aspect became a little irritating.
- I felt that more could have been explored with regards to Rae’s gift and more detail could have been given as to the extent of it.
- The story dragged on a little to long and took too long to get moving.
The love scenes were a little lengthy and very detailed at times. In regards to the storyline they felt a little pointless, except when Rae’s gift was involved. But that almost made it comical. I would say these scenes are steamy but the emotional turmoil took the heat away to me.
It took me a while to get into this book and as an ending to the series, it does feel finished. However, there was too much angst and a slow-moving plot didn’t do this story any favours. I felt that this series deserved a bigger finish than it was given.
Overall, I did enjoy it, just not as much as I had hoped for.
As I write this, I am still in my book induced fog coma. To Have And To Harm is the brilliant follow up of the first book, Keep You From Harm. It went beyond where I ever thought it would go. While book one captivated me, book two grabbed my heart until the very end. And even now I am not sure if I even got it back.
"Now that I have to make her understand that loving me is more important than saving me."
To Have and To Harm picks up where the last book left off. Raielle and Lucas are apart due to harsh circumstances. They are miserable. And not really living. While Raielle wishes to disappear to let Lucas move on with his life, Lucas cannot let go. He spends his days yearning and hoping for Raielle. She is in his thoughts, his dreams. She consumes him. And his love for her has no ending. So what does Lucas do? He tries his hardest go after her. He leaves everything behind to get to Raielle. Why? Because she is his heart. And you never forget your heart.
"But I can see it in her expression, because it mirrors mine. Even then, we were already in deep."
Lucas and Raielle find that being apart is no longer an option. When circumstances bring them back together, they learn they are not the same people that fell in love. Raielle is a shadow of her former self. Lucas fights for Raielle. He loves her harder than ever. Lucas wants nothing more than to protect Raielle. Every thought, every action is done with her best interest in mind. But Raielle wouldn't be who she is if she always agreed with that. I loved seeing this side in their relationship. It has blossomed under the circumstances they have found themselves in. Despite Raielle's powers and her capability, Lucas loves Raielle through it all. He knows his life is in danger. But he loves her more.
"You're the only thing I ever wanted that didn't come easy. You're the only thing I've ever fought for. And the truth is, I don't know how to to stop fighting."
If you've read the first book, you know that there are so many twists and turns, ups and downs to this story. Book two is no different! New and old characters are brought into the story and trust me when I say you have NO idea who to trust. If you think you can go into this believing you know what will happen you are absolutely wrong. The suspense will keep you on edge. Raielle is much more powerful this time around. Her powers are an even bigger element in this story this time around. Secrets are revealed, the truth comes out. Lives are shattered. Hearts are broken. This is such a captivating read.
"It's like when she found me, I found some long absent part of myself."
Lucas is the most dedicated, passionate, loving male character I've read in a long time. His love for Raielle knows no boundaries. No matter what he is faced with, whether it is danger or even death, he sees nothing but Raielle. He loves with everything. With every fiber. With conviction. His love goes beyond the dark places where love usually doesn't go. Raielle believes that Lucas brought her life. But it is Lucas that has been awoken from his detached attitude towards life. His heart and soul simply belongs to Raielle.
"He took control. He made my body surrender to him."
This emotional, jaw dropping, intense, passionate story has added to why The Remedy Series is one of my favorites of all time. The author's flawless writing will draw you in from the first page. Nothing is held back in book two. The author takes the story to a place where I never thought it would go. She takes the elements of paranormal romance and adds her own genius twist.
