“Layne packs as much into this sexually charged and emotionally intense novella (an introduction to her upcoming Wedding Belles series) as most authors do in a full novel…The heat between [Leah & Jason] enough to melt steel, and the emotional connection and psychological struggles will keep readers engaged.” (Publishers Weekly on From This Day Forward, Starred Review)

Directly on the heels of his father’s untimely death, Seth Tyler is thrust into running his family’s company, years before he was prepared to step into that role. Seth takes his responsibilities in running The Tyler Hotel Group very seriously. But his sense of responsibility doesn’t end there. With his father gone, Seth’s responsibilities also extend to his younger sister, Maya. So when Maya suddenly announces her engagement to a man she’s barely met, Seth is immediately suspicious of the prospective groom’s intent. While Seth wants Maya to be happy, her whirlwind romance seems dubious at best.
Brooke Baldwin, LA’s renowned celebrity wedding planner, suffered a major blow to both her professional career and her personal life. While standing at the altar, ready to pronounce her vows, Brooke’s fiancé was arrested for illegal activities involving a Ponzi scheme. Unable to resurrect her career and still nursing a broken heart, Brooke leaves her past behind and heads to New York to join the small but illustrious team of wedding planners known as at The Belles. Though small, the elite company is quickly climbing to the top of the Manhattan wedding scene, and they are eager to have Brooke join their team.
Seth is certain about one thing--he wants to give Maya the wedding of her dreams. It is the groom that Seth is uncertain of. In his attempt to keep a watchful eye on his future brother-in-law, Seth inserts himself into the wedding planning process. Footing the bill for the momentous occasion is the guise with which Seth comfortably hides behind. And surreptitiously securing the help of Maya’s wedding planner is sure to make his job even easier. But Seth is totally unprepared for the beguiling Brooke Baldwin and the feelings that she evokes in him.
There is no doubt about it. Brooke is enraptured by Seth Tyler. Until he opens his mouth, that is. How could one man be sexy, enigmatic and utterly frustrating all at the same time? Maya Tyler is Brooke’s first high-profile client with The Belles, and her brother Seth seems bound and determined to make every step in the wedding planning process painfully difficult. Still, there is just something about Seth that keeps pulling Brooke in his direction.
Despite her own failed attempt at love, Brooke is still a romantic at heart. She believes in “happily-ever-after.” Seth, on the other hand, does not. Nursing his own wounds from the past, Seth is skeptical when it comes to love. But that doesn’t t stop his body from craving more of Brooke. Because despite the continued animosity they exhibit toward one another, it is quite evident that they also share a connection. Energy sparks between them; the heat that emanates between them is undeniable.
Seth and Brooke struggle with the push and pull of their tenuous relationship, but in the end, they finally yield to their desires. But will Seth’s overwhelming need to control all things finally push Brooke away for good? Will Brooke ever find her “happily-ever-after” if she continues to allow fear to hold her at bay? And is it possible for a romantic and a cynic to find true love in each other’s arms? Alas, the answer lies somewhere within the pages of this book.
The Wedding Belles is a great new series by author Lauren Layne. While I was previously unimpressed by the series’ prequel (“From This Day Forward”), I found “To Have and to Hold” to be a wonderful surprise. It is fun and sexy with characters that are flawed but likeable. And the chemistry between Seth and Brooke is sizzling hot!! An overall wonderful light romance that will make an excellent addition to your summer reading list.
"This thing between us – I’m not going to pretend it’s not there, but I’m also not going to action it."
This book had the perfect blend of romance, humor and sexiness. My only complaint is that in some parts it was a little bit slow for my taste but overall it was good! Looking forward for the next story!
If you find out a few minutes before your wedding that your groom is a con man wanted by the law, putting a huge expanse of land between you and the ensuring fiasco is the best course of action, as Brooke Baldwin discovered. While her reputation and her wedding plan business was destroyed in the wake of the scandal, Brooke is determined to start over, much wiser and certainly much less trusting of men and their motives. Her new job with The Wedding Belles is the perfect place for her to do so and a multi-million dollar wedding is the way to go. If it didn't come with a micromanaging control freak in the form of the brother of the bride holding the purse strings.
Seth Tyler doesn't trust that his sister's unexpected engagement isn't a ploy by her fiancé to get into her trust fund but he needs help to prove it and if that means getting involved in the minutiae of wedding planning, then so be it. Too bad that the wedding planner is not open to his plan at all.
Seth and Brooke are as opposite as can be. Seth is straightforward and controlling. His close management style is definitely not a fluke and while it comes from a good place, it's not necessarily seen that way, but there is no doubt that he loves his sister. Brooke on the other hand is sweet and friendly, in fact the stereotype of a California surfer girl with a bubbly and fun personality, which suits her job. And the sparks between them are enough to light up the night. So what can go wrong?
With the way this book started, there was so much to look forward to and when it picked up, was really enjoyable. It was sweet and fun, passionate and entertaining, as you would expect from Ms. Layne. One positive for me was that Seth was unexpected because he was quite different from her usual heroes. He was more buttoned up and less of a ladies' man. Another positive was Brooke. She was strong and very self-aware, she knew what she wanted and went after it. However, Brooke and Seth just never seemed to mesh for me until the end especially because of their rough start.
I'll say this: the second half of this book was everything I was looking forward to and I have high hopes for the next book.
