I received this book for free from the author back in October and I promised to review it. I couldn't find it at the time because it was the first time anyone sent anything directly like that. I did get it on Amazon for free a week or so later so I now have two copies and I completely forgot about it until I found both copies recently. I am definitely kicking myself because this book had me hooked from the beginning. It draws you into Wendi's story and it is quite a story. I wanted to cry with the poor girl and hated the Garrett's as much as she did. I loved that she grew stronger over the course of the story. She was no longer the victim. I love strong heroines and Wendi is definitely strong. I read this book in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down. It is a breathtakingly tragic book that highlights a real issue that many girls face in reality around the world. It was so well written that I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I went into this book (this whole series, really) BLIND! I got the option to review these books and chose to just because the titles (and covers) seemed really intriguing to me. I didn't read the "blurbs" before hand and I'm kind of glad I didn't. This whole story unfolded organically, and I felt like I really got to know Wendi! She is truly the epitome of a 'strong' woman. The things she had to overcome, and the situations she was put through... you hear of these things happening even in today's society, so reading about it made it even more real for me. It was scary, surreal, and haunting!
Wendi starts off as this super trusting teenager - full of life and with the ability to rebel against her parents! She quickly gets in with the wrong 'crowd'... and eventually finds herself kidnapped and forced to do just unspeakable things, this is also where the drugs come into play. I was just glad that Carissa didn't explain in deep detail what Wendi had to endure - it was hard enough to imagine how bad it really was.
When Wendi returns to her hometown for her revenge years later, the s*** LITERALLY hits the fan! I can't even tell you how messed up this story is! It's so gloriously twisted and backwards; and you feel like you can't trust a single person! Just don't give up on Wendi, or she might come after you with a knife!!
The ending of this book was so bittersweet - I loved how it ended, but was so ready to jump into book two!
Have you seen this girl is the first book in the
Flocksdale Files, by Author Carissa Ann Lynch. This book was amazingly-heartfelt and touching. Wendi, a thirteen year old teenager only wants what almost every teen wants at her age: A good friend, a boyfriend and to fit in. This book has drug references, but you soon learn that it's nothing to really do with drugs and everything to do with surviving,overcoming-horrific-trauma and learning to live again. Have you seen this girl is about revenge, murder and uncovering the truth. Wendi was put through so much in her life and although I was frustrated with her at times it didn't take away from how tragically-sad and beautifully written this book was. If you are a parent, this is one of the many things you never want your child to go through. I couldn't imagine believing that my daughter ran away, or was dead. Then to find out that she was alive, which would be wonderful, but to know she had been through hell!! Author Lynch did an excellent job. Loved this book!!
