It takes just a little to get used to how hard to press to get just the right consistency of ice shavings. Press to hard you will get chunks, not hard enough it will just spin the ice chunk around. Once in a while you might get it so the piece attached to the motor will spin around on the ice chunk causing an evgraving on the ice cube. No worries, flip the ice cube over and try again, try lighter pressure and shorter spurts while pressing the button. Our best results came with little pressure down on the top while intermittently pressing the button.
The bad, a normal glass will not fit under the device, I have an urge to take a hole-saw and make a hole in the base so that I can elevate it. I find myself using a bowl, or a solo-cup to catch the ice.
Also there is a chunk of ice left over and doesn't use the full piece. We toss this into one of our plants as some extra water for those needy plants.
A cube of ice in their mold yields a nice amount of shaved ice, locally it'd be approximately a medium. Which is around $4.00. So after a handful of your own shaved ice treats you will have recouped what it would have cost to take it to someone with a more perfessional machine. I'd love get get a larger machine but until I have the space and extra monies laying around this is great.

I had my first shave ice this summer and have been craving it ever since! I finally asked my husband while he was half listening and fully engaged in video games if I could purchase a machine for the house. He mumbled yes and I scoured Amazon until o settled on this product. It arrived quickly and was super easy to set up. I patiently waited for my ice to freeze. The next day I let my ice thaw for 5-7 minutes. It easily came out of the container and plopped right into the machine. I placed my bowl at the bottom and applied medium pressure to the gray piece at the top. The machine isn't quiet but I didn't find it overly noisy (my blender is louder)! The harder I pressed, the harder the ice was. But applying medium pressure, the ice was shaved perfectly. I applied my topping and it melted it down a bit but I enjoyed it nonetheless. One cube made two full bowls for me! Delicious and honestly, one the best purchases I've made in such a long time (hence the time to write a review)! Buy it, you won't regret it!

I really liked this product everything was good except I bought begged ice to put in it instead of the blocks that you freeze. The blade just barely reaches the top of the ice so even though the ice is full nothing will come out only a little bit at the beginning
