Hawke is the fifth book in the Carolina Cold Fury series by Sawyer Bennett. I have read each of the books in this series (and everything else by the author) and have enjoyed them all. Hawke fell a bit flat for's my take on the Good and Not So Good in this book...

Good: Love the hockey setting and getting to see glimpses of the previous team members in each of the subsequent books. I liked Hawke. Besides being HOT, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Vale's relationship with her father was heartwarming as well.

Not So Good: Without giving spoilers, the basis of the contention between them was weak in my opinion. I felt like there was a lot of drama over what amounted to a small miscommunication. That made it hard for me to really gel with them. I didn't think there was as much depth to their characters as with the characters in previous books in this series. The book seemed a bit rushed and didn't have as much development to the story.

All that being said, I will definitely read any future books in this series. I think for those of you that have read the series to date, but haven't read this, I would definitely read as it continues the overall Carolina Fury story along....just know that you may not love it as much as the others.

Hawke is the 5th book in Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury Hockey Series. This is a standalone novel based around a Carolina Hockey team. This one is a second chance romance novel.

I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed each of them, some more than others, but they are all good reads. I am sucker for a good hockey love story, but for some reason I just didn't love this book. I think my biggest problem with this book was that I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Hawke and Vale were hard characters to like (in my opinion). Now that doesn't mean I didn't like this story, I did. I liked the storyline, but I felt their connection fell flat for some reason. I loved the ending and the epilogue but truthfully by the time I got to that point, I found it hard to believe. These two characters held a lot of anger and resentment towards each other and that lasted throughout the majority of the book. I would've liked to see that come to an end sooner.

In this book we follow the journey of Vale and Hawke. These two were in a four year relationship when they were younger, until one night out of the blue, Vale ends it and kicks Hawke to the curb. Once the reason came out in the story, I have to say I was underwhelmed, but I did like to overall theme of what Vale was trying to tell Hawke. I don't want to give too much away, but had they stayed together back then, they were both headed down a dark path and it wasn't a good one. So Vale felt she needed to let him go to protect them both. This will make more sense when you read the book. Then they reconnect 7 years later through the Cold Fury Hockey team. Vale was hired on as an assistant trainer and Hawke is new to the team.

On the ice Hawke Therrien is well known for his toughness and skill, and off the ice he is well know for his carefree partying ways, and he takes great pleasure in living his life to the fullest, he figures there's no harm in it because he doesn't have anything or anyone tying him down. He has no interest in settling down, he was almost there once, and it ended in heartbreak and left him with the desire to never go down that path again. He hasn't seen the girl that shattered his heart in over seven years and he is not sure he could handle seeing her again, the hurt she caused has never really gone away, it's always there lingering in the back of his mind. When she waltzes into his team meeting, and the announcement is made she will be working with the team, he is left breathless, and flooded with memories of the girl who once owned his heart.

Vale Campbell left her wild and crazy ways behind and took a more sophisticated approach to things in her life, and is trying to get her act together once and for all. She went to college and is now trying to follow in her father's footsteps by working in the hockey world. She knew going in there may be a possibility that she might cross paths with the boy who once owned her heart, however, she wasn't really prepared for the possibility of them being employed by the same team. Things between them ended on bad terms, and there have always been lingering feelings there, and now that she will be working along side of him she must try to find a way to keep those feelings at bay.

This was my first experience with Ms. Bennett's work and I have to say it made a very good first impression, so much so, I plan to make a return visit to the series very soon, and acquaint myself with more of the Cold Fury Hockey team.

This is number five in the Cold Fury Hockey series. Hawke’s rising star in hockey has just hit the high times when he joins Cold Fury. Hawke Therrien has been living the good life of the hockey celebrity including women and partying for the last seven years ever since he left his home town and girlfriend behind after she unexpectedly broke up with him. He is stunned after joining the team to find out she also has come to work for them. Neither one has ever really gotten over the other; however, there are so many hurt and bitter feelings between Hawke and Vale that seem too insurmountable. Hawke tries to ignore Vale at first but that does not last long. When he finds out why she is there, he can’t stay away, but Hawke also can’t seem to let go of the past.

I liked both Hawke and Vale although this books seems one long pain fest as they struggle with their past relationship and continued hurt feelings in the present. Vale has been keeping a secret for a long time, and since neither one can seems to be able to sit down and have a rational conversation, the hurt continues. Some characters you just want to shake and say stop being an idiot and talk it out. This story has a lot of back forth between their past relationship and the present one. Readers who enjoy painful, angsty relationships will most likely enjoy this addition to the series.
