Hawkeye hits the mark!

Kelly Thompson, Leonardo Romero, & Michael Walsh are an amazing creative team. Great story & art. Hawkeye: Kate Bishop vol. 1 'Anchor Points' from Marvel Comics is an amazing read and a great new direction for West Coast Hawkeye as she becomes a p.i. in a new city. Highly recommended.

This is Marvel's best series! An incredibly fun (and sassy!) read that picks up, tonally, right where Matt Fraction left off in his highly acclaimed run on the Hawkguy. In this series, Kate Bishop sets up shop in Venice (CA, not Italy), hoping to continue her burgeoning career as a Private Investigator. Between the fact that most folks walk in thinking she's the Hawkguy, and the fact that getting a PI license is actually pretty hard, she's having a rough go of it at the start. But as the story progresses and she takes on a particularly challenging new case, she grows into her new role and finds her tribe -- a group of friends and allies who will support her no matter what.

That's the elevator pitch, but what makes this series unique is that writer Kelly Thompson has a clear and compelling perspective on Kate Bishop -- who, like Clint Barton, is a superhero without super powers, just trying to make her way in the world. Kate may seem like she has her **** together, but the truth is that she's making it up as she goes along, just like everyone else. The one thing that sets her apart is her absolutely dogged commitment to doing the right thing -- no matter how many times she might get beat up by the bad guys, or how much procedural red tape is thrown in her path by the local PD.

Of course, a great story and a good handle on character and theme would be meaningless in the world of comic books without good art. Leonardo Romero, luckily, is incredible -- the subtlety of the facial expressions and the dynamic kineticism of his action sequences make this one of the all-around prettiest books at Marvel right now.

Ultimately, Kate Bishop proves to be a highly compelling and fun lead character, and Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero prove to be worthy successors to the high bar set by Matt Fraction and David Aja. Highly recommended.

Finally got around to reading this, I was reading a handful of books with female protagonists and in the end this was one I couldn't put down. Sassy and fresh, Kate Bishop is the real deal.

Ace archer Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, relocates to Los Angeles to become a PI and quickly gets enmeshed in various supervillain plots and a cast of quirky characters.

I picked this up during a sale and it was a fun read. I wasn't familiar with the character before and Thompson's writing quickly makes her endearing. The quirky supporting cast seemed a bit rushed (after a day in LA she has a house full of BFFs) but are used well to drive the story along. At times it did feel like this was the pitch for a Hawkeye Netflix series but that's OK too.

I've been somewhat familiar with Kate's character from previous series and I was really looking forward to her solo run and I was not disappointed! I'm a big fan of the pacing and dialogue in this run. There are a lot of players introduced as you go issue to issue but the writers did a great job of wrapping up the loose ends they laid out. I think my favorite thing about this run is the dialogue! Kate has some great one-liners and the humor is also infused into the art, making every background note or observation worth looking at.

Definitely would recommend this series if you're looking for something light but action packed.

If you were a fan of Fraction and Aja's run I think you'll like this too, I did. It just seemed like a perfect continuination of that. I loved the art, can't wait so see how the mystery continues to unfold and I love the new group she's gathered around herself in LA.

How old is Kate supposed to be? She comes off as a quirky teenager. First look in to her character and I'm mildly impressed. Let's see what's behind the next door.

I love this comic because it has interesting storylines and if you are watching the “Hawkeye” show it is a great companion to this comic. Also, there were many surprises in the plot twists!

Southern California picked up the most fun Hawkeye around, and she's making a name for herself on her own. Oh, she picks up a few new friends along the way and gets a visit from an old friend or two (Jessica Jones!), but she kicks ass, is motivated by compassion (and a need to earn a living), and is sassy as anything. All in a day's work for this purple Avenger. This is a fun series!

When Kate Bishop was first introduced in Young Avengers, she was composed, measured, and thought before she acted. That was what made her interesting, that was what made her an identification figure for me.

This series portrays Kate as the opposite, she is rash, jumps into action without the smallest hint what's happening, and lacks all the social graces that made the original Kate Bishop so interesting.

I really love this character, but this series does her a painful disservice, and I really hope this isn't how Kate Bishop will be portrayed in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent new take on Hawkeye

I was a huge fan of the previous run of Hawkeye that Matt Fraction did (based on Clint Barton's on Hawkeye) once i discovered it and found out about this when i saw the comic in our local comic shop, so i grabbed this first collection to see what i had missed.

It's great, Kate is a very different Hawkeye, her story is very different but it managed to keep the humour and irreverence that ran through the Fraction series alongside a good story and great art.

I can happily say i am a fan of this new Hawkeye, long may she continue.
