I ordered this because a customer specifically wants this one. It showed up in a flimsy package with a short hose and some condenser mounting plastic ties, missing the fitting shown in the picture. It is light and sturdy. However, I wouldn't recommend this comparing to the B&M 70268, compatible in size & price. 1st, the B&M comes with all kinds of fitting and mounting materials including screws, strips and metal braces which you can mount it any way, any where you like. I don't like mounting it directly on the condenser which may cause damage down the road and sometime you have to remove the radiator to access. The B&M body is heaver and sturdier then the Hayden. As for functionality, I believe the B&M provides better fluid flow since there are 37 bigger duct fins vs 30 thin ones and the heavier aluminum provide better heat dissipation which also contributes to better cooling. You have to spend more on mounting material to make up for the missing and short of. I believe the price drop is because it was way over priced; the lower price is still not justify its quality of the product and service.

I have a 2004 4.0L Explorer.
It does not have the tow package from the factory which included a trans cooler, 2inch hitch, and 3.73 gears
Mine had stock the class 2 1.25" hitch and 3.55's

I added the 2 inch hitch but NOT the gears. Instead I partly justified that by buying this cooler as it is alot bigger than I really otherwise needed (about 2-3x the size of the stock tow package cooler).

the tow rating on my Explorer with a tow package is 5,300lbs, with the V8 it is 6900

So knowing that the vehicle was rated for the weight (I would only be lacking 20 horse and 30 torque) I decided to take my Explorer to tow my buddies Jeep that broke down...twice.

Even with the 3.55's 7000lbs behind the Explorer and pulling a 10% grade for 4 miles or so (I live in a mountainous area) the transmission never overheated or gave me any trouble. The cooler did its job under max conditions and kept my trans cool. Don't know how much else you can ask for.

Installed on 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Lowered temperatures about 50-60F for normal driving. Recently towed a trailer across the U.S. (3500 miles) and never saw temperatures that worried me. Consistently keeps a loaded transmission at around 130-140F all day long. Works exactly as it should. I have absolutely no complaints with this product.

Installed this on a 2001 5.4L F150 and it works exceptional. My truck has a factory auxiliary cooler, but I had been monitoring my transmission temperatures and found when pulling my travel trailer or ATV trailer the transmission temperature routinely exceeded 200 degrees. I installed this in front of my condenser so it's got plenty of airflow, and just plumbed it right into the return on the auxiliary cooler so that fluid now goes through the radiator, through the auxiliary, through this cooler, and then back to the return. Hayden makes a kit with quick connects specific to Ford, but I opted to use hose barbs, clamps, and rubber line to attach mine given it is not a high pressure system.

Installation was easy on my Ford and took about 2 hours including a transmission flush and fill since I had the lines disconnected. I've towed about 2000 miles through the summer after installing this cooler, including one trip that involved a long haul up a steep incline in 101 degree weather, and the transmission temperature has not exceeded 175 degrees. While there may be more expensive options out there, this was easy to install and has more than met my desired needs. It's a cheap way to protect a transmission from costly damage, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve the cooling system on their transmission.

Reduced regular driving temp by 40 to 50 degrees at times. Overall a very noticeable difference in transmission temps. Haven't tried while towing but sure it will make a huge difference. Will update after towing. 2004 4Runner SR5 4.0 V6. Measuring temps via Bluetooth odb2 Bluetooth and torque app.

my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee loves this cooler and the temps have significantly dropped in the transmission due to the installation of this. I am expecting long life out of my transmission now that I have this installed.

Although i don't have a transmission temp gauge, I know that it is helping keep my tranny running cooler. I have a similar unit on a F-250 diesel with a gauge, and it DEFINATELY works! Easy to install too. FYI: a heat gun is a must to soften the tubing/hose when making the connections and an extra 3 feet of hose with make for a nicer install.

Appears light weight but it does the job well. On my Chevy Avalanche 2500 with an 8.1L Vortex V8, during 35+ mph my trans temp reads 150 degrees. Below 35 when the temp reaches 160 degrees the 10" fan I put in front of it kicks on and drops the temp back to 150. The proof will be when pulling my 32' 6000lbs travel trailer later in the year. The old trans cooler is less than half the size and on hard hill pulls I would see up to 215 degrees. Ouch!

The Hayden 679 "just" fits. I had to create my own brackets for mounting. The trans oil lines on the 2500 with an 8.1L engine come up through just left and right of center under the radiator. The Hayden connectors are almost perfectly in line with the trans lines. Simply cut the lines, remove the old trans cooler, flair the tubes, and use 3 to 4 inches of included hose to connect the lines. The nice part about this is it is impossible for the hose to come off. The hoses can't go down. There's a bend in both trans lines that won't allow this. The hoses can't go up, the cooler is in the way. If the cooler performs well pulling my travel trailer then I'll be really pleased.
