Performance, Reliability, and Simplicity Redefined
The PoolCleaner is a suction cleaner available in 2 or 4-wheel drive to suit any pool size. Patented features such as self-adjusting turbine vanes ensure maximum power at any flow and effortless debris management. Adjustable skirt and tire treads work in concert with programmed steering to ensure easy wall-climbing, obstacle management and maximized pool coverage while delivering the best surface clean.
Self-Adjusting Turbine Vanes
All of The PoolCleaner models have patented self-adjusting turbine vanes. The flexible vanes ensure maximum power at any flow. Their ability to move allows easy passage of large debris to ensure full cleaning with peace of mind.
Robust Tire Treads
One look and you will see the patented tire treads give The PoolCleaner enhanced climbing ability and obstacle maneuverability - especially with main drains. This makes The PoolCleaner ideal for all pool surfaces and shapes.
The PoolCleaner has multiple pre-programmed internal steering sequences, which cause the left wheel to periodically reverse, allowing it to turn and then move into another direction. This feature ensures full pool coverage and efficient cleaning.
3 interchangeable throats allow optimization of suction performance at lower flow and larger debris passage. As such, it is the ideal suction cleaner for use with variable speed pumps.

The 2x Suction PoolCleaner™ uses your existing pump and filter for power. This cleaner plugs into either your designated suction port or the skimmer. The 2x is ideal for most average sized pools. Some of the features that make 2 Wheel POOLCLEANER™ unique: SELF ADJUSTING TURBINE VANES All the POOLCLEANER™ cleaners have the patented self-adjusting turbines, which maximizes the power from the water flow. This turbine is similar to a paddle wheel with blades that are adjustable. This feature allows the POOLCLEANER™ to still move at low suction and low pressure. In addition the folding vanes of the turbine allow for the easy passage of larger debris through the cleaner. STEERING SYSTEM The 2x Suction POOLCLEANER™ has an internal programmed steering system, that causes the left wheel to periodically reverse, allowing the POOLCLEANER™ to turn and then move into another direction. For the 2x Suction POOLCLEANER™ there are five different programmed turns ranging from 90 to 450 degrees. This feature allows the POOLCLEANER™ to cover not only the deep end, but also the shallow end. The POOLCLEANER™ has no problem with uneven surfaces or strange shapes. It won’t stick in a corner, or get hung up by a main drain. ROBUST TIRE TREADS One look and you will see that the patented tire treads give the POOLCLEANER™ better climbing ability and obstacle maneuverability. The tires come with tread wear markers that show you when to replace your tires. The front tires of the POOLCLEANER™ have humps (raised treads) that allow the POOLCLEANER™ to overcome any reasonable obstacles such as the main drain and uneven surfaces. This makes the POOLCLEANER™ ideal for all pool surfaces and shapes. ADJUSTABLE SKIRT The POOLCLEANER™ has patented adjustable skirts that allow the cleaner to maintain optimal suction under the machine even when it encounters obstacles. When the POOLCLEANER™ encounters an obstacle one (or more) of the skirts will lift up (adjust) over the obstacle while maintaining suction under the cleaner. An easy way to determine if you need a 2 Wheel Suction PoolCleaner or a 4 Wheel Suction PoolCleaner is to imagine a 40 ft long pool. If the suction port or skimmer is half way (most newer pools) approx. 20 ft from one end, then the 2 Wheel Model will be sufficient. If however the suction port is all the way at one end AND you have a very deep end the 4 Wheel PoolCleaner would be better suited for your pool. The best way to describe it is that the 4 Wheel model can drag more hose. PLEASE NOTE: Special tires may be needed for certain pool surfaces such as tile, vinyl and fiberglass.

Anyways, on to The Poolcleaner. This cleaner is an absolute workhorse. I live in Arizona where pools are open year-round, and this cleaner is in my 22,000 gallon pool doing it's thing 365 days a year. Our pools can be extremely difficult to keep clean in the summer months due to the extreme heat (which speeds up algae growth) and all of the dust in the air, and we need to run our pumps for 10-12+ hours a day just to keep them clean. And in the 4+ years that I have owned this cleaner, my pool has never been...well....cleaner. :) This will climb walls with ease (given the proper amount of suction) - in fact with a freshly cleaned filter it will nearly climb out of the pool! It covers the pool in a random pattern to ensure it gets every nook and cranny, it sucks up every speck of dust and debris - including long palm tree fronds and bougainvillea leaves which would clog my other cleaners, and it NEVER. BREAKS. DOWN. EVVVERRRRR. That last part is the major selling point, in my opinion. Even if the cleaning was just mediocre, I would STILL recommend it solely based on the fact that it is bomb proof. All that I've had to do in 4 years is take it out of the water for an occasional clog (which rarely happens), and I have changed the front tires twice and rear tires once at a cost of about $35/pair (I have a pebbeltec pool which is hard on tires; if you have plaster they will last much longer). BUT THAT'S IT! So it has cost me a grand total of $105 in maintenance in 4.5 years ($23.33/year) compared to $100-$150/year with my old Hayward. And this thing cleans so much better than the Hayward it's not even funny.
I could go on and on, but I think I've already covered my two main points - it does a phenomenal job at cleaning, and it hardly costs anything to maintain. What more could you possibly want? The only thing I'm disappointed about is that it won't climb & clean my stairs, so I have to brush those down once a week (which takes me about 60 seconds). So you can stop your research right here and just buy this cleaner, you will not be disappointed.
UPDATE 12/2013: It appears that Haywards has now purchased Poolvergnuegen brand. I hope they don't mess with the design and turn it into a "designed-to-fail" product because the original design is flawless.
UPDATE 5/8/2015: I have now owned this cleaner for 6 years and it is still flawless! In the meantime, I've had to replace a 3-year old pool cleaner at one of my rentals (with this one) and put about $150 in parts into another before replacing it with this as well. And all I've had to do with this one is replace the wheels 3 times in a 6 year period!! And I have a pebbletec pool which is notorious for being hard on the feet/wheels of cleaners. This continues to be one of the best purchases I have ever made for my pool (along with a variable speed pump and salt water system).
UPDATE 5/7/2016: I'm now at 8 years since buying this pool cleaner, and since my last review 2 years ago all I've done is replace the wheels one more time. But now it looks like I'm finally having issues, the cleaner doesn't move well anymore and constantly gets stuck. I took it apart and it looks like many of the gear pieces are showing a lot of wear. I added up the cost to replace all the moving pieces and decided to instead just buy a completely "lower rebuild" kit which I found on a popular auction site for $140 to my door. So if you take that cost, plus the 4 sets of wheels ($65x4) and spread it out over the 8 years of ownership it comes out to about $50/year or about $4/mo. But keep in mind I live in AZ where my pool is running year round, and the pump needs to run a very long time in the summer when it's 100+ outside. If you live in a climate where your pool is only used half the year then you can cut that cost in half since your parts will last twice as long.
This cleaner is excellent and I would purchase it again. I have had it for approximately 4 months and with the mention of one minor thing, I would say it works perfectly. That one minor thing that I noticed is that on occasion, it will turn on its side (so the flat side of the wheel is flat on the bottom of the pool) and it will sometimes stay that way for a little while. I am not really sure how long it will stay that way because whenever I see that happen, I just tug on the hose a little and it corrects itself and it is back to normal. It is such a minor thing that I do not think it should be an issue or a factor but I wanted to mention this.
One other thing I would mention is that when I asked my pool service guy his opinion on pool cleaners, he mentioned the Hayward Navigator and this one. I did some research on both units and the one thing I kept reading is that with the Navigator, it required more maintenance as there were more parts inside of it. This meant it would be costlier to repair than this unit. I kept reading this unit has far fewer parts and much less maintenance. While I would not want to waste money needlessly on purchasing parts for the Navigator, a big thing to me was not wanting to waste the time and have to deal with the headaches of the maintenance.
Again, I would highly recommend this cleaner to anyone in the market for one.
