Eager to get out from beneath the oppressive hand of her strict father she takes a job as a waitress in a local dive bar in order to earn some extra money. Things take off from there when Taylor encounters coworker/bartender Hayze Clark.
Hayze is every bit the typical college bad boy and then some. Taylor knows she should steer clear of him but something keeps drawing her to him. Is it the fact that every girl on campus wants him? Is it his sexy tatted body? Is it his 'doesn’t give a damn' cocky attitude? Or is it something more? Hayze is everything that Taylor’s father wants her to stay away from but he’s everything that she can’t stay away from. Unbeknownst to Taylor at first is the fact that Hayze has secrets – lots of them – and his unwillingness to confide in her threatens to tear them apart.
‘Hazed’ grabs hold of you from the start as it takes you on a sometimes dark yet always romantic journey about two people from very two very different backgrounds. Hayze and Taylor are a couple that seem almost destined to be together even though odds are against them and all throughout the story Butler does an excellent job of keeping the reader engaged while hinting about the darker side of Hayze. It is a book that will definitely leave you wanting more!
Hazed starts like any other NA romance but it quickly takes a darker turn; and I really liked that. It's not darker in the sense that this romance is taboo but in the sense that it seems normal until you uncover the layers underneath.
It's hard to read at times because, as the reader, you can see what is coming for Taylor a mile away. You just want her to get the hell out of there but you watch her succumb again and again to the unhealthiness of her romance. It's tough and I think if you didn't know that that is the purpose of the story, you would scratch your head and walk away. But that is the point of the story, no matter how hard it is to read.
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
